Get set for a progressive masterpiece with a new record from Hal Stucker on Statement Recordings. This is the first released by Hal for over 15 years but there is a familiar name behind the alias…
I didn’t batter much of an eye lid when this landed in the promo inbox last week as I can’t say I’ve ever heard of Hal Stucker. I did a little bit of digging around for some information on this unknown artist. I say unknown, but once you find out the man behind it that’s far from the case. The man behind this one is David Forbes and he last used the alias back in 1999 releasing four records which were based around the trance sound that was exploding back then. You can find a few of them like ‘Citizens’ and ‘The World is Flat’ on YouTube and I suggest any one with a trance ear does because they are very good records. So, 16 years on from the last Stucker release arrives a fresh new one on the name, this time with a very different sound if you do remember Hal’s old records.

There is plenty about this track that will keep your ears engaged from the first beat to the last. It sits very firmly on the progressive style with gorgeous uplifting tones and atmospheric backdrops. The melody has a touch of 80’s nostalgia about it, think along the lines of Jean Michelle Jarre or more recently Michael Cassette;s remix of Crocketts Theme. This one has that similar sort of sound build to it, although with a very different melody. It’s just layer upon layer of pure joy this for me and the perfect late night record to look out to the skies and wonder what’s beyond the starts.
Conclusion:
I don’t really like reviewing records describing every little pitch change in them as that’s not what music does. It’s about feeling and the emotion it delivers. Coral is a record which delivers plenty of both, delivered with a very uplifting progressive sound scope that will leave you with a good feeling.
