Any dance music fan over the years will have heard of Blackbox’s ‘Ride On Time’ released way back in 1989. They are back with a retrospective album of old and new mixes including their other hits ‘Love Sensation’ and ‘Everybody Everybody’…
In 1989, BLACKBOX released “Ride On Time” using an unauthorised sample from Loleatta Holloway’s disco hit ‘Love Sensation’. Holloway took legal action and the original version was removed from distribution. 29 Years later, Black Box finally secured the rights to the original sample and it is to be released in their ‘Superbest’ album. Black Box originally hailing from Italy brought the Italo-House piano sound into the mainstream. Unquestionably delivering one of the finest examples of 90’s pop music in history and in the process becoming one of the most important and influential pop dance bands in the UK at the time. Monopolising the airwaves during the late 80’s and early ‘90’s, alongside acts like Ace of Base, Dee-Lite, Culture Beat, C & C Music Factory, M People, Technotronic, all of whom were contemporaries and populated the musical landscape. But the biggest story was ‘Ride On Time’. A record that marked a special moment in pop history and remains culturally relevant to this day, with a modest 9.5 million streams on Spotify and still featured on prime-time TV adverts. The song reached #1 in the UK and Ireland in 1989, staying there for 6 Weeks cementing their place as the best-selling song throughout the whole of 1989. Elsewhere in the world, it peaked at #2 Sweden and Australia and sat in the top 10 throughout the rest of Europe becoming one of the best-selling 90’s pop dance tracks to this day. ‘Ride On Time’ originally sampled Loleatta Holloway's 1980 disco hit ‘Love Sensation’, it was then re-sung by an anonymous well known pop singer and famously lip-synced by French model Katrin Quinol. Now that the 90’s are very much in fashion with boy and girl band reunion’s along with Vogue recently publishing a feature about clothes and bands from the era. Of course, it was not just all about ‘Ride on Time’, Black Box’s other hits ‘Everybody Everybody’, 'Strike it up’ and ‘Fantasy’ all gained great traction at the time. Their first album ‘Dreamland’ broke into the US charts and gained Gold certification in the US & UK, second album ‘Positive Vibrations’ also followed in its success. Now Black Box return with ‘Superbest’, an album featuring the hits that we know and love plus special remixes released for the first time in addition to a new and previously unreleased Black Box track ‘Everyone Will Follow’ and alongside a special version of ‘Ride On Time’ with the very original Loleatta Holloway vocal, recently cleared for re-release. In addition to all this, Black Box are currently touring with international shows and festivals dates lined up across Europe in the Netherlands, Tenerife, Ibiza and the UK.
