The first Ever release on Captured Records is here. It's produced by one of the co-founders of the label Mike Shiver and features the all new talents of Daniel Grigore (Sonicvibe) This Swedish based label is founded by Mike Shiver, Andreas Hjorth and Johan Bergstrom and brought to England by the Great London label, Above The Sky Records. With remixing duties from Masters & Nickson of Out There (5th Dimension) fame, does this show another hot new label ready to break free or is it Captured and incarcerated before it's even begun? Oh!! Please read on??
A-Original Mix 137
The A side starts in very much a modern day trance style. Very Armin Van Buuren. Which is very much a good thing, this track really goes down like a State of Trance track or even Anjunabeats. With some sections sounding very much like Above & Beyond and others like Signum's wicked Push Through. (Very good things then)
The track opens with a Driving bass and the traditional massive sounding clap. The bass becomes layered by nice sounding backing sequences adding depth and energy. The Armin influence is really there, as Sonicvibe & Mike brings in a simple looped sequence and slowly builds in layers of Synth. This adds warmth, giving the song a real buzz! It's a wonderful combination of Prog and Trance, which contains a lonely and emotional piano sequence (again Armin like) and breaks fast back to the looped sequence and the piano. It's abrupt, but it works. Once the piano fades away, with more uplifting layers being added as it does, the song goes into a very Nu NRG effect more than trance. There's no time for huge synth breaks here! It's not a hands in the air track really. Big chorus lines swoop down, and phaser in and out over a snare, causing a brilliant sound., which causes the track to explode into action, giving a wonderful feeling on flying.
The next sequence is added after about 30 seconds, which really shows the Above & Beyond sound. Very 'up to date' synth overlaps, stunting the track slightly but sounding very trancey, instead of Nu NRG, the sound is very much like the lead synth used in Above & Beyond's Remix of Do you know what it feels like to be a girl. It's a brilliant contrast. This goes for about a minute then a small layer breaks the beat for 2 seconds and whoosh! Away again with some beats and that driving bass making an all new build section. Here you will be able to hear those layers in the background, they don't overpower, it's just simply for an atmospheric feel. A case of you'd miss them if they weren't there. The piano makes an appearance again and we get the same fade out into a third break and this epic monster uplifts you all over again.
The main sequence of this track really is super. The hook is very infectious and never cheesy. If you like your UK trance, this is a monster. If you like your Armin Van Burren you'll love this! The track finishes on the 'Up to Date'/Do you know.... style sequence and bass, ending on a swoosh! NO MESSING!
B-Masters & Nickson Remix 137
Ah! What can you say. If you want class, go see Dave Masters and Robert Nickson. This remix oozes it. Again, it sticks very close to the A State of Trance or Anjunabeats sound, coming across more like a mix than a remix. But it's so classy.
The track has been spaced out and mellowed more causing a beautiful pure trance feeling. The track opens with the normal beats and clap, but this time a background sequence leads the way with a very funky sound. A mini snare effect allows a more traditional bass line to take hold, making it very bouncey. Real quality. A slow fade in brings in the arpeggio lines and the Above & Beyond style sequence from the middle and later sections of the original, leaving out the piano completely. The claps really move the song in a swinging motion until the on set of the break. Here the remix continues with the sequences and adds layers of synth to heighten the sense of Euphoria. Now the piano makes an appearance. It's very clever really, by switching the sequences in the break and builds the remix sounds so much more relaxed.
God this works. The piano runs nicely over the top of the main sequence, which in this version fades in, whilst a mellowed out driven bass, sneaks in under them. It's slow and brilliantly crafted stuff. A slightly out of place sounding snare rattles up and the track breaks for a silent pause then cruises away, as the standard bass and driven bass merge. Trance chords are used here instead of the main sequence, which makes the song sound a little flat, but all the more relaxing for it. Despite this, it's still very dancey and after 30 seconds or so , both the main sequence and piano join the fray and really get the trance metre buzzing. Of course this is the apex of the tune and it has to come down, which it does, again slow and deliberate. Vangelis sounded layers them fade in and the track moves off to a beautiful break beat section with those Vangelis layers powering in the emotion. A snare brings back all the sequences at once for one last blast whilst the Vangelis style layer still swore in the background.
The track then breaks down to the funky sequence and bass and ends with the same swoosh effect form the original. One surprise for me, it's not at all like Out There (5th Dimension), but just as cracking in it's own way!
Conclusion:
A wicked piece of trance here, if you're a fan of Armada or Anjunabeats this is for you. The A side is a real slice of pick me up trance, which has been championed by Armin on his radio show. It exudes energy and is more power driven than it's B side remix. Whilst, for me the B side is where is at. It's very hard to choose, as both sides are real quality but the beauty and classic trance sound of the B just about wins it, it has that bit more emotion.
In short, four up and coming artists flexing their muscles and showing they need no spinach! TOP Song, which turns out to be a Top first release on this brand new label from the country that brought as Abba and Roxette! (Cool or what!)
