Progressive masters Tilt, in another collaboration with Maria Nayler, the voice behind Robert Miles "One and One", and also behind Tilt's previous production "Angry Skies"
This is the latest release from Tilt and Maria Nayler "Headstrong", a deeper dubbier release from Baroque Records, the label reknown for its deep chunky tracks. 2 Mixes are featured on this vinyl, and both are dirty progressive journeys into trance.
Tracklist: a: Relentless Vocal Mix b: Parks and Wilson Scalpel Mix
Starting off with the A-Side:
This is the slightly lighter track, making use of Maria's haunting vocals along with a thumping bassline. A track which would fit well into the beginning of a Sasha or a Danny Howells set. Clocking in at around 9 minutes, this builds and builds, with vocal stabs here and there, but no real break occurs, and would probably be a builder, rather than a peak time floor smasher. To me, the remix doesn't really make enough use of Maria's excellent vocals as in previous productions, but still, the effect is there, a great track to start with.
B-Side:
The Scalpel Mix is a deep dark, rumbling journey, with distorted vocals and a more dirtier bassline. Maria's vocals have been replaced by a seemingly male electronic voice, but 2 breaks are near the latter half of the track, making this a peak time progressive track if sped up slightly. This track is slightly longer, but builds in a similar way to that of the Vocal mix, be it in a slightly different style. This remix clocks in slightly longer than the a-side, at just under 10 minutes or so, and one for the progressive fans.
To me, not what I expected from a Maria Nayler track, but worth the listen. Tilt have been reknowned for quality productions and this is no exception, but aimed at the more progressive base of fans.
Unfortunately, the release is still on promo, but a retail release will appear shortly, also on Baroque Records, probably in late January or early February, and it will also be appearing on the upcoming Anthony Pappa Compilation Album.
