This mysterious piece of vinyl comes labelled with only two items: '?' and 'XTC'. What could it be? Find out...!

When I got hold of this track, it was simply ? - XTC and nothing else, just a total mystery. It has since been revealed that the one responsible for this pair of monsters is the one and only Carlo Resoort from 4 Strings. Anyway, I can't contain myself any longer, lets get to that review!

A: XTI (Mix 1)

This first mix starts strong and stays strong. A thumping beat instantly takes control and commands a sense of strength, power and drive with a frighteningly tiny amount of effort. The beat is further enhanced by adding an extra kick on the last half beat of every bar which is extra driving and techno fans everywhere will latch onto it. A layer of tight percussion and a low stabbed synth add some Marco V style flavour so altogether the track has a great consistent and unrelenting feeling. The final touch is the vocal. Oh the vocal. Where it came from I don't know but its right on target. A female voice speaks a few sentences to give the track its title and it couldn't work any better. The spoken style fits perfectly with the rest of the driving track. Scrumptious.

B: XTC (Mix 2)
And on the flip? The A-side was good but oh my word. The beat is MASSIVE. Its combined with some of the fiercest and simply most terrifying bass I've ever known on a techno track. It cannot be stopped. Its awesome and we're only 16 beats in! A nicely constructed percussive line kicks off and we see some regular two beat breaks which switch between a big clap and a deep, dark and ominous bassy sample, which sounds quality. The vocal is next to appear. Again the speaking aspect of it is great - the voice is eerily echoed and is spoken in a fantastically sexy manner. As we reach the half-way point, there is a short break in which a new element works its way in. Its a big, grinding synth playing a simple hook which ties in superbly with the rest of the track - ie. big, dirty and loud. This is one of the best pieces of techno I've ever heard.

This record is fantastic.

Conclusion:
What else can I say? If you like techno then you need this record. If you don't like techno then listen to it anyway, its seriously good. Mix 1 is more techy-trance while Mix 2, my clear favourite, is downright awesome techno. Big room stuff, infact, you'd be hard pressed to find a room big enough for this.
