The latest instalment on the impressive Reset Records imprint is a rather interesting affair - a resurrection of one of Reset's previous releases, 'Call It A Day', pit against up to date versions of Ratty's classic 'Sunrise'. Read on to find out about this curious mash up of tunage...!
This track circulated for a long time as a bootleg in the scene. E-Craig's 'Call It A Day' combined with Ratty's 'Sunrise (Here I Am)'. It's been causing mayhem on the floors for a long time now since Judge Jules has been hammering it all over the place. Other top jock reactions are very similar: "This is exploding on the floors.", "Massive reactions!!"
This bootleg version was first created by Adam Sinclair. Now the rights are cleared so we can finally get hold of this tune as it's due to see daylight!
The original review of 'Call It A Day' can be found here: http://www.ivibes.nu/index.php?article=3949
:: E-Craig Vs. Ratty - Call It A Sunrise :: Reset Records :: RS015
Both mixes of this release are very very similar to the original release of 'Call It A Day'. They again take on the forms of the 212 AM and 212 PM remixes and the only real difference in the new tracks are the breakdowns melt away into the soothing and gentle vocal sections of 'Sunrise' until they build up and melt back into the impulsive tones of 'Call It A Day' again.
The 212 AM Mix focuses on the backing ambience which is very Filterheadz in style, driven by the big beats of crisp percussion we've come to expect from E-Craig's productions.
The 212 PM Mix has a tougher all-round feel with a bit of a harder beat and some more twisted fx thrown in. The breakdown again features the vocals from 'Sunrise' and this melts back into the toughened up version of the track with hard, coarse synths stabbing a rhythm as the track beats relentlessly on.
It's interesting because now whenever I'll hear 'Call It A Day' in a club I'll never be sure what version I'll hear until the break comes so an element of surprise and suspense has been introduced I guess.
Overall, a bold release because of its total similarities with its original counterpart on Reset, but this one had to come out because it is a great twist on an already quality tune.
Conclusion:
Maybe not one for vocal fans, but definitely one for fans of the original track. Its worth having both simply because of the whole new side this new element brings with it.
