This one CD wonder certainly contains some proper trance gems. What else would you expect from the guy who has a residency at Godskitchen, has had mixes aired on the shows of Fergie, Pete Tong and Judge Jules and not to mention his very own Residency radio show on BBC Radio 1. Aside from his growing international reputation, Jon works heavily with producer GTR (Gareth Emery) and also runs the Conspiracy Recordings record label.
The mix begins really quite mellow and progressive, with the soft tones of Luminary's 'Amsterdam' kicking things off and setting the pace. As you move on, the tracks begin to get more melodic as the mix sticks to the kind of musical progression you'd expect of an album like this. The tracklist really begins to heat up in the last half of the CD. You see Airbase - Escape, the awesome Super8 Vs. DJ Tab - Helsinki Scorchin', Peter Dafnous - Face The Change, Aira Force - No One Knows and Re:Locate - Rolling Thunder each come rolling in to the mix. Jon also throws in something a bit darker and techier towards the end in the form of Purple Haze - Eden which is a very nice and welcome touch which adds a decent bit of extra spice to the CD.
As far as the production, mixing and track selection goes, it's top notch. The mixes are 100% accurate, nothing clashes and no track is gievn the opportunity to linger either, making for a mix which keeps you interested whilst also extending the tracklist by a tune or two.
Baroque are definitely onto a winner with their Residency series. Roll on the next editions!
Conclusion:
A top quality trance compilation which cannot be sniffed at and must most certainly not be overlooked or passed by. Nice and simple - quality trance from a quality trance DJ.
