The mighty Cape Town project returns with a sparkling new single, backed by a remix of the amazing 'Cinema' on the flip. Produced by Laurent Véronnez and Ferry Tayle, this is a tune to look out for this summer...
L-Vee aka Airwave teamed up with Ferry Tayle for this one. Ferry is a relatively new producer from France, who is also (partly?) responsible for Alex M.O.R.P.H. pres. Everest - 'Orée', a track which just got a release on the UK-based Monster Tunes label.
Cape Town is of course no stranger to the trance scene. Over the years, a batch of wicked tunes was released using this project name, including the massive 'Cinema' from 2003 and 'Flight Of Icarus' which was released back in 2004.
Included on this release is a brand new track plus a new interpretation of Cinema.
A-side: Proglifter This is one of them tunes that perfectly fits the title. Overall, this is a truly epic ride of big proportions with its eleven minute duration, massive two-minute introductory section and smooth, tingling melodies. With chords gliding over the very polished sounding, typical Cape Town percussion, this tune slowly yet steadily progresses into a highly melodic, soothing track, filled with emotionally charged, constantly building little melodies, an overall wicked structure and a thick, rolling bassline. The breakdown is of the spine-tingling caliber; an astonishing, emotive and above all hugely uplifting main riff comes in without remorse, creating a superbly elevating, hands-in-the-air type of effect, accentuated by long key strokes that sit in your mind forever. Together with the sharp, neatly arranged percussion and bassline, this results in a corker of a tune which should be picked up by all the jocks in no-time. It's epic, yet smooth and it's energetic, yet relaxing. In a few words, it has it all. Rating: 9/10
B-side: Cinema (Ferry Tayle Dedicated Mix) Mister Tayle provides us with his rework of 'Cinema', a tune that must have been one of the more epic ones available back in 2003. Again, this is an eleven-minute ride through trancy soundscapes, yet this time it's all slightly faster and more powerful. Rapid percussion, smoothly grinding basslines and bits & hints to the original's massive set of melodic interludes are being injected into the tune's body during the build, steadily making their way to a long breakdown. It's filled with that beautiful melody from the original, backed with very contemporary sounding trancy synthwork to add a more uplifting effect to the main melody. This is not a groundbreaking remix, but it does know how to keep the listener entertained by using well formed melodies, a warm sounding structure and that fast overall feel. A nice addition to the original! Rating: 7,5/10
Conclusion:
Proglifter is a massive tune. It has everything: a great melody, smooth percussion, a wagonload of energy and a nice bit of emotion as the cherry on the cake. Ferry Tayle's remix of 'Cinema' is quite the nice rework of the original, with its modern sounding structure and sunny overall atmosphere. Concluding, this is a great release on Camouflage which is not to be missed!
