Mr Sam hit's us up with a smashing new 2 CD 'Interpretation' of his "Lyteo" album. Let's see what this genius has come up with this time round ...
A double CD on the very hot indeed Maelstrom Records from one of the best production pioneers in my eyes; Mr Sam. Needing no real introduction as his name speaks for itself we have here a great selection of reworks, edits and remixes from some of his biggest tracks to date.
CD 01 01. Insight (feat Kirsty Hawkshaw) - Acoustic for Sam 02. Split (feat Kirsty Hawkshaw) - Jonas Steur Remix 03. Smeya (feat Tim Coltrane) - Original Mix 04. Lyteo - Rank 1 Remix 05. Lodestar (feat Kirsty Hawkshaw) - Arcane Science Remix 06. Secret (feat Rani) - Dunderstadt Dub Remix 07. Lost & Found (feat Shane 54) - Shane 54 vs. Orange Project Remix 08. Insight (feat Kirsty Hawkshaw) - Mr Sam Interpretation 09. Split (feat Kirsty Hawkshaw) - T4L Remix 10. Neo Vulcan - T4L Vulcaneo Remix
CD 01 is a very good selection of tracks based on good character and genuine ideas. Starting off with the gorgeous "Insight", the amazingly talented vocals of Kirsty Hawkshaw work a treat and make this truly a masterpiece in it's own right. If I just set about reviewing the highlights of this 1st CD then I'll have to include "Smeya" which features vocals from Tim Coltrane, such a great piece of work this is. Next up is the very well know Rank 1 Remix of "Lyteo" - I don't think this needs an introduction really as you will all have heard this and seen this destroy dance floors all over the world in the previous year. A personal favourite for me on this CD has to be Dunderstadt's Dub of "Secret" feat. Rani (of Delerium - "Underwater" fame), it just has some real chilled yet driving feel to it which works hand in hand with the vocals really well, pity this is only the Dub Mix. Shane 54 hits on vocals for "Lost & Found" and there's also the Mr Sam Interpretation of "Insight" which sounds like a classic 'Gabriel & Dresden' type production, certainly this has to be one of the best tracks of the album in my eyes. T4L finish up the CD with remixes of "Split" - one of my biggest tracks of the last 6 months & "Neo Vulcan". Overall this 1st CD get's a very good 8/10
CD02 01. Lodestar (feat Kirsty Hawkshaw) - Jay B Remix 02. Me & You (feat Rani) - Dimitri Andreas & Madox Remix 03. Split (feat Kirsty Hawkshaw) - Mr Sam Interpretation 04. Learning to Fly (feat Rani) - Orange Project Remix 05. Insight (feat Kirsty Hawkshaw) - Orange Project Remix 06. Secret (feat Rani) - Davy Van Eynde Remix 07. Insight (feat Kirsty Hawkshaw) - ATB Remix 08. Split (feat Kirsty Hawkshaw) - Aly & Fila Album Remix 09. Flying Around (feat Crash Course in Science) - Mojado Vision 10. Lyteo - Rank 1 Remix - Jonas Steur Edit
CD 02 has a fair few nice treats hidden within. Me & You (feat Rani) is a really good laid back track that I'd chill out to, a nice constant rhythm & vibe make this a sure highlight of this CD for me - excellent work from Dimitri & Madox on this remix. Orange Project stick they're sound to "Insight" on track 05 and make good use of the vocals over the ever changing background sounds keeping the attention of the listener really well. Davy Van Eynde picks up the pace of this CD with a storming remix of "Secret" that's a sure dance floor destroyer to say the least. Really big room sounding and again like the rest of the album, the vocals are used to outstanding extent. Aly & Fila take a slightly different approach to what I've heard previously from them on they're remix of "Split". It works well though so 2 thumbs up there for they're efforts. The main highlight on this CD has to be Mojado's Vision of "Flying Around" - this is a tune! The Mojado sound is always great to hear and there is no slacking in this perfect 'Vision'. Superb! The CD is finished off with Jonas Steur's Edit of Rank 1's take on "Lyteo". Not so sure on this one, prefer the original Rank 1 Remix to be honest. This CD gets a nice 7/10.
