Cream are here with a healthy dose of tracks that will be on heavy rotation at dance parties throughout this summer. Have they picked out the cream of the crop or is this compilation a bit mouldy?
Cream compilations have been released every year since the late nineties and you can expect a summer compilation every year without fail. Cream used to be an independent club brand but in recent years back bought of by the mighty Ministry of Sound. The amount of compilations they turn out is impressive and so far not turned Cream in to a cheesy commercial goldmine like a few other brands they own. The first thing you do with any compilation is have a look at the back so lets do it.

Three discs with twenty tracks on each? Don’t; be expecting a logical flowing DJ mix with each as this compilation is not really about that. It's a collection of big summer tracks to play by the pool, in the car or at those big house parties. You could even take it dogging with you its got that many uses.
The first CD is bang on house. It's got a few well known tracks you may have heard pumping out of many a radio station recently. Booty Luv and Bob Sinclair's sing along friendly rework of 'Everybody's Free To Free' being two of the more commercial releases in there. Armand Van Helden's NYV Beat is a cracking track in my opinion and also mixed into the disc is a Grant Nelson's 'Sessions of Jack', which is a remake of a very old acid house track. The disc is full of vocal house bangers which may not really be mixed in any real order but do the job of keeping an upbeat vibe throughout.
Tech, electro and everything else with that sound has been getting ever more popular this year. The style's been around a while but has come to the front of the queue inn recent months. Disc two is house without the vocal's. Its jammed with electric sounding tracks with big electro and squelchy riffs. A good example of the sound is The Freaks 'Creeps' track which has a killer riff on it and a pumping deep beat. John Dalhback's new record 'Blink' is in there with its deep electric Benny B sounding riff. A good disc this which has a decent selection of quirky tracks.
The third disc in this three disc set pumps up the BPM a little. It starts off with the more tech sounding Trance sound that the likes of PvD likes to play in his Soundgarden shows then flicks it up into more uplifting banging trance. Tracks to look out for in here are the excellent record from Dubfire and Greg Downey's remix of 'Heaven Scent'. It even sneaks in a pretty nice remix of one of my all time favourite records CRW 'I Feel Love'.
Conclusion:
Compilations like these were never made for that musical journey so many DJ's like to speak of. It's a collection of some of the biggest tracks to pop up over this summer, that’s it job and one it's done very well. The mixing is fine and the track selection is pretty decent. All in all this is a good compilation to remind you of the tracks that have been banging away over the course of this summer and will continue to do so.
