Top 10 international DJ, million selling artist and producer and founder of the massive Meganite events, Mauro Picotto is quite the global phenomenon. Whilst spending a lot of his time jetting around to various events around the globe, he mainly concentrates on, and focuses much of his energy into, his Meganite parties. Much of his deep, minimal techno music reflects these nights and is produced specifically for what they represent - in Mauro's own words, "electronic music lifestyle". This is what this album reflects too. Most of the tracks are deep, groovy numbers, featuring minimal percussive lines, hearty bass and some dreamy come melodic breaks. I was lucky enough to see the man himself in Privilege in Ibiza and these tracks really come into their own on a massive system, feeding into a throbbing crowd.
Particular tracks to watch out for here are: 'Maybe, Maybe Not' which is a cool, funky and groovy piece; 'Contaminato' which is sumptuously deep with a throbbing bass and truly minimal feel; 'Acid Sex' which is very addictive due to its catchy hook; 'Meganite' simply due to its big room feel and then finally two old favourites: 'Baguette', a techno monster from 5 years gone and the more recent 'New Time, New Place' which borrows the much loved retro gaming style lead sound.
Ok so you get a big taste of Picotto's current sound plus some decent classic winners, but one thing this album does lack is decent and meaningful structure - it doesn't feel as if it leads you anywhere, but is just simply a collection of tracks.
Conclusion:
For Picotto fans, this is obviously a must. but after that this may only really appeal to those who really dig their minimal sounds.
