The smooth grooves of Jacob Henry and Approaching Black are coming your way through Silk Digital with their new collaboration 'Yesterday's Tears'...
Who said progressive was dead eh? It's far from it with labels like Silk Royal pushing out some of the best progressive beats you can find at the moment. They have a solid stable of established and new artists on the roster and are one of the brightest new labels to appear on the scene in recent years. Jacob Henry has had a big part in pushing the Silk Royal sound around the globe and as well as being one of the driving forces behind the label he is one hell of a talented guy when it comes to music production. Want to hear some proof of that claim? Then look no further than this new release with a fellow freind 'Approaching Black' with a smooth remix from Shingo Nakamura.
:: Original mix :: Shingo Nakamura Remix
If you have yet to hear anything by Jacob then this is a very good place to start as his Original Mix is nothing short of sensational, with the help of his collaborating partner in crime Approaching Black of course. If capturing the mood could be done in a track then Yesterday's Tear's would radiant a chilled, warm joyful feeling that leaves you with a twinkle in your eye. The piano melodies that rouse around inside a deeply warm atmospheric back end are outstanding. The deep, but prominent beat drives the warm mood this progressive masterpiece creates throughout. Creating depth into all this are sweeping strings that echo into the distance and feed in soothing chords with a subdued melody that fills the distance to lead the piano keys in. The whole way this track is layered together and delicious tone of the sound should melt your ear drums.
I have not heard that much of Shingo Nakamura if I'm brutally honest but his remix here certainly impressed me. He's not changed a lot from the original, but let's be frank, he didn't need to. The change here is with the drums, kicks and snares that hold a sharper edge to them with a meatier kick drum. The progressive build, piano harmonics, sweetly melodic melody that melts you away into your seat is more or less left as they were. Not a bad thing by any means, but one slight change with the mix is a growl on the bass line that leads the track up. It adds another twist onto this outstanding piece of music that is bound to go down very well with the progressive heads out there.
Conclusion:
Quite an outstanding piece of progressive wizardry from Jacob Henry and his collaborative partner in crime Approaching Black which will surely stir up the enthusiasm for the progressive fans out there. Silky smooth tracks from one of the freshest labels to appear in recent years.
