After 14 years spearheading the dance department at BBC's Radio 1 it's time for the Judge to budge and move on to pastures new. His show which has inspired millions around the world will see its last episode next April…
Saturday nights are not the same without a dose of Judge Jules after Radio shifted him onto Fridays in a shuffle up of their dance programmes a few years ago. Friday nights though for the past few years have been your weekend warm up with the iconic Judge Jules at the helm, including not just an audio explosion but a presentation style individual to Jules. 'Give It TO Me Judge' and 'The Judge Won't Budge' might as well be trademarks alongside his imperious banter throughout the two hour show. Well, you know the saying ‘All Good things…’etc, it’s sad to state that next April the Judge will present his last ever show for Radio 1 as they shuffle their dance programming yet again in a move which also see’s Gilles Peterson leave the station to.
While many online portals might embrace Radio 1 for pushing new, fresh music into the station, not this one, at least this music follower. With only Pete Tong remaining of the old guard, the 4x4 beat club seem to be out of favour with Radio 1 as they turn to other styles for their dance delivery. The departure of the Judge is very sad news but it’s one which Jules himself won’t be dwelling on. He’s still going to be knocking out his ‘Global Warm Up’ and regular podcasts alongside his Judgement Sundays over in Ibiza.
The Judge will not budge! The official announcement was made a few days ago via his artist management agency, Integrity..
Integrity Artist Management would like to thank everyone at BBC Radio 1 on behalf of Judge Jules, for a fantastic 14 years. During this time Jules’ show has enabled him to convey his passion for electronic dance music to an extremely wide audience, giving great pleasure and in many cases inspiration to clubbers and music lovers in the UK and around the world.
It will be with true sadness that Jules checks out of Radio 1 for the last time in April 2012. Although the Judge will budge from Radio 1 to pursue a career in music law, he will also be laying down the law on the dance floor as he continues to grace the decks at the top clubs and events around the world.
As well as his ongoing DJ schedule Jules will continue to broadcast his renowned internationally syndicated radio show ‘The Global Warm-up’ and to produce his podcast which is regularly downloaded by over a quarter of a million subscribers. Jules will also continue bringing the best DJ-ing talent from around the world to Ibiza each summer at his legendary night Judgement Sundays.
Jules said yesterday: "I've had an incredible time over the last 14 years at Radio 1. I'm going to continue DJ-ing and I'm having a bit of a career change to Entertainment Law as well." It's a little fitting with a name like Judge Jules he should have a partial interest in the Law, which he has been studying for the past five years so I read from a few sources. His departure from Radio 1 though is a sad one for me as it’s through his show that I embraced my passion for dance music and formed the musical interest which I do today. All I can say, is thanks be to the Judge for his fantastic shows over the years and raise a glass for what will be a new chapter for Jules come April 2012!
