Hello everyone, this is Ariel Cybana. I'm just a lowly DJ and occasional vocalist from the SF area. I'm flattered i:vibes has asked me to do a diary here for you. Well I wish I had as much going on as some of the other people who have posted already so I'll throw in some commentary to fatten this up.
Just got back from Malaysia and did a gig out there. I wish I can say I had the time of my life and I wish I had gotten more out of the trip than I did. It's a bummer when you don't even get a chance to check out the place and the only time when you did manage to shop for souvenirs was at the airport. At least I can say I played and I got to see Piliavin & Zimbardo play 2 nights later who absolutely kicked ass. They came to see me play and liked my set... yay!! Hopefully the next time I come out there that I'll have a better time.
Next week will be my one year anniversary of my internet radio show "Provocative". For that show I'll have DJ Nukem as my guest who is one of the producers I've admired for a while. I'm so glad he's agreed to do this and he's gonna feature a recent live set playing some of his brand new tracks. Then again I'm always glad whenever someone agrees to guest on my show. So far I have had Desyn Masiello, Rui Da Silva, Marcelo Castelli, Thomas Penton, and lots more. To those who aren't familiar with Provocative, it airs every Friday from 1-3PM PST (9-11PM GMT) on www.eccentricbeats.com.
Then the following week I'll be doing a guest spot for www.vipguestlist.org. That mix will air from 2-4PM EST (7-9PM GMT) on Thursday June 17th. They got a awesome lineup of guests and I'm flattered to be in such good company. They had Chris & Kai on their last show and in the future they'll have Trendoid, Midnight Society and Trent Cantrelle.
Vocal wise, my next one is with Stereonova and it's called "Talk2Me". I think it's being signed by Vinyl Vice yet I don't know of any release date at this point. Also I am currently doing vocals for other producers. I'll reveal more details as things are more complete but I will say the people I am working with are amazing and fairly established so you can expect it to be good!
I'll conclude this diary entry with a discussion I had with a DJ friend of mine. He used to live and DJ in Spain and he suggested I DJ topless when I play there. I said hell no I'll never do that. I explained why and then asked him to think of any female DJ he respects and if he would have the same respect for her if she did that. He thought and pondered and realized I was right. Why would I want to ruin all my credibility & self respect to do that for money or novelty? You can't pay me enough money to do that! As a matter of fact, I was asked by a promoter once to DJ in a bikini and I refused. I won't do gigs where I am required to wear certain attire let alone go topless. I'm not sorry I don't wanna be some novelty piece to be stared and gawked at. Eeeeu...
As for those who do DJ topless? If the likes of Portia Surreal choose that path, that's fine with me as it is her choice. I'm sure she's well aware it's good marketing on her part and she's getting booked all over the world. However if she later chooses not to do topless gigs anymore, she'll find quite an uphill battle to get any sort of credibility or to get the bookings she used to get. You gotta admit it was only a matter of time before we see female DJ's booked to play topless or bikinis or that sort of thing. Whether their skills leave anything to be desired or not isn't the issue, it's the fact we're talking about it is what gets them booked.
Welp that's all I gotta say for now. :)
til next time!
