Post Post subject: ***Exclusive Paul Van Dyk Interview*** Reply with quote

This weekend sees Paul van Dyk returning to PaSSion in Coalville on his Politics Of Dancing 2 Album Tour. We managed to catch up with the man himself for a quick chat about the album, the forthcoming event and a few other random bits!

Hi Paul. You seem to be one of the busiest Artists in the business right now! How’s it all going?
Everything is good!

With you doing such intensive touring currently, do you find much time to kick back and chillout? Any holidays on the horizon?
I am looking forward to my holidays this October!

You’re touring many countries now with The Politics of Dancing 2 Album tour. Which do feel has the most exciting dance scene be it new or long-standing?
You can find these exciting dance scenes everywhere on the world! There is no special country or club - it’s all about the interaction between the crowd and the DJ. And I love my audience for giving me that kind of feedback wherever I am.

Speaking of the Album, there is a lot of buzz about this one. What sets this compilation apart from the rest? Did it take you long to compile it or did it all just sort of fall into place?
The major problem with DJ Mix Compilation is that you can hardly banish the atmosphere of a club night on CD. So you need a concept and I tried to combine all impressions with my experiences as a DJ, musician and producer!

How do you feel Dance music will evolve over the next few years? Have you got a direction that you’re specifically taking your production sound? Is this new Album a reflection of where the PVD sound is heading?
Electronic Dance Music is evolving constantly - it always did! THE POLITICS OF DANCING 2 captured the sights and sounds at this point in time and is more a momentary statement than a perspective of a specific direction.

Do you tend to vary your sound for whichever country / venue your playing? Do you think that certain areas embrace a certain sound better than others?
I don’t vary my style to match the venues or different countries; I’ve got a pretty clear idea of what I am going to sound like. How it is transforming and developing at night is of course influenced by the interaction and vibe between the crowd and me but this just shows the facet of Electronic Music, not a adjusted sound or style.

This will be your 3rd time at PaSSion now. What do you enjoy most about the whole PaSSion experience?
Passions crowd is always very energetic, intense and direct!

Will the PaSSion crowd be treated to a lot of exclusives from the Album? Do you have a strategy in place before you play or just see how the night pans out?
Like I mentioned before, there is no strategy or whatever. It’s just my sound, influenced by the club atmosphere and mood, melted with the interaction and vibe of the audience. And that includes stuff from the new album as well.

A world tour, a new Album, a new single. What is the next challenge on the horizon?
I’ve already started to work on my next artist album that we have planned for the second half of the next year!

You’re resident for the massive Cream @ Amnesia in Ibiza. How has this season compared to previous years so far?
Really good! It’s getting stronger and better year-by-year. We’ve been more involved this year than in the years before and presented “VANDIT THE SESSION” in the main room where we’ve invited guests like Marco V, Gabriel & Dresden, Oakenfold or NU NRG!
