Starter Studio?? Q&A

Hey guys, I have a few questions? I want to start a mini studio, nothing too fancy. I am looking to buy an iMac and I want to get a decent synth. I am not sure if I should go soft synth and just a controller or get a decent workstation.

What kind of synth would you recommend for getting into house, or trip hop style music, around the $1000, no Nord Lead 3 or nothing?

Are there any decent synths with software for Macs so you can make your own patches and download them, are they atleast 61keys?

Thats it. I just want to get a decent non pricey synth, that I can use in conjunction w/ a laptop, to get somemore sounds out of it. Oh also, I have to get some kind of audio interface to do that right? Any recommendations?
