Post Post subject: vocal trance Reply with quote

hey

what are your thoughts on vocal trance. i'm talking about sound of goodbye, arms of loren type stuff. above and beyond's remix of duran duran's ordinary world.

do you like this? i do and am not afraid to admit it.

my question is: would an ENTIRE mix containing vocals be boring to you?

my friend wants me to make her a complete vocal trance compilation, but for some reason when i go to make it, i find myself unconsciously going for dubs after one or two. i like them. i just can't stomach hearing vocals every track.

what is your opinion?

Ok first things first, about the quote below. Did A&B do a remix of this track? I know i should know, but ive never heard of it!! Embarassed Or do you mean the cover version Aurora did? That had female vocals though...

Secondly, I love vocal trance. I was listening to alot of my old stuff from 98/99 today, "Johnny Shaker Presents Serial Diva - Pearl River" is HUGE!!!! i forgot how much i love it!

Finally, I dunno about a whole mix with vocals in it, maybe every other track would be better, the only way to find out is to try and see! Very Happy

i think duran duran did ordinary world originally... the aurora made a cover.. then A&B rmx'd auroras cover.. Laughing

that rmx is one of my favs of theres... they have turned a pop song in to a true trance anthem... Laughing Laughing

Duran Duran did do the original cause my old man's got it. The Aurora (A&B Mix) is, as you said, an anthem! Im sure someone out there has bootlegged the original male vocals with a Trance background though, cant remember where i heard it though... maybe in a dream??... Smile

i'm 27. so i come from that time.

yes, it was redone by aurora feat. naimee coleman's voice. very nice, the record i have also has a condor and gizeh remix on it. nice.

naimee went on to do yet another 80s track-the cure's lovesong. this time one of my heroes, dave seaman, did a proper remix under the Brothers in Rhythm title. very nice as well. dreamy.

i love old 80s stuff, so when a remix hits, i'm all over it. i'm currently working on a remix of murray head's-one night in bangkok. (anyone remember that one?!) it's going to be a floorburner! full of the sound that fire & ice are pushing. very "big".

honestly, "big" music is considered cheesy here in the States for some reason. it has to be dark and moody to be considered "cutting edge".

i was asking because i'd like to spin more vocals in my sets w/out compromising my integrity. i'm known for building through prog into "bigger trance". i.e. i start w/ christian west and end w/ above and beyond.

one of my faves is my bootleg of dire straits' money for nothing. money shot. it's a classic! everytime i bring it out, it gets smiles from one side of the dancefloor to the other. especially when the guitar hits. then it's air guitar city!! Very Happy

i LOVE this site! finally, a place where i can find others that like "big vocal trance"!

send me a private email and i'll send you a pack of promos. you guys are gonna LOVE this!

warmest regards
donny young/los angeles

Is this a proper bootleg? If so what other tune is it merged with? I have a tune by the 'Purple Kings' called "Thats The Way You Do It" its basicly a dance tune that used the guitar riff off Money For Nothing and it was out in 94/95 on Positiva Records. Very Happy Very Happy

actually, it's not a bootleg by definition. it's a bootleg in terms of taking the riff and running w/ it.

it was called Money Shot. a white labeled 2 sider

i don't think it's the same as yours. i'll go home and check it out.

Epic Vocal Trance is the absolute best when done right. I used to ONLY play it until I basically ran out of vocal trance tracks and had to branch out into non-vocal trance.

But as for a whole cd being vocal trance - no problem! My first mix cd I released was all vocals and I have the dubious distinction of not being able to beat it (according to everyone).

A few AWESOME vocal trance tracks:

DJ Tiesto - In My Memory (Airwave Mix)
Perpetous Dreamer - Dust Wave
Sarah Brightman - Who Wants to Live Forever (Trouser Enthusiasts Mix)
Supreme Beings of Leisure - Strange Love Addiction (another Trouser Enthusiasts Mix)
Maria Rubia - Say it (Rob Searle Mix)

I find that vocal trance is a nice way to get ppl into electronic music as well. It makes it a little more palatble to ppl who aren't used to the particular "sound" of a lot of electronic music.

As for me, I love it. I also enjoy the challenge that layering a vocal set just right gives me. Done right, vocal trance can make one hell of a set.
