I just got Fl Studio, just messing around with it right now. Just wopndering though, what do you guys use to make an acutual main good beat. do you use the fruit kick, it seems a really shite beat to me, even if you mess around with the settings.

Also what good Vsti's are there that are worth getting.

You really really really just have to mess around with that stuff and see what works. It takes time and a lot of experimentation.

In order to make a good beat, u need to have every sound blend in together to where u can hear em all working together rather then one distorting out (Hi Hat more often). Just play round and see what sounds good to you. Thats what i do

ok thanks for that. but what i mean is just the single kick beat, on its own. do you just insert a fruit kick, and alter it from there. ive messed around with loads of settings and the kick beat just sounds so perfetic.

I had the same problem Tom... And the thing is, label bosses can spot the FL kick a mile away and hate it!! But Michael is right in what he says. (Especially the HiHats) I myself, got so sick of the FL kicks, I took Tony Burt and Mat Silver's advise and got a few sample discs and myself a keyboard that can do them, then dub over them in post. I gave my sound a much deeper and energetic sound overall. (Sorry I know that doesn't help with FL, but you could switch to Reason's Drum loops, after all they've worked for Masters & Nickson to name just one)

ive almost finished my first song, the berat isnt so bad when you here everyting else aswel, like hen you here the kick, the bass, the hait, snare etc all together its not bad at all.

It depends on the sample discs really matey. If you go get things like Dance Ejay sample discs, then you'll have to expect pretty horrible samples for the most part, because they are aimed at Teens. But you could find some discs on the net from people who've made discs of samples from their keyboards to make money. (Sorry but the guy I used to get mine from isn't online anymore or I would have passed you the link!! Crying or Very sad) He used to use a Kurzweil..great for the Digital Blonde sound!

Hmmm...my keyboard matey? Yep it's not cheap and I'd recommend just sticking to software if you can. (Korg Triton Le (Great for D&B and Breakz loops, with good trance loops) and Mini Korg_ (Great Effects keyboard!) £899 and £150... Crazy )

Nightmare really! hehe
Good luck Tom! (And pop the song on the forum if you can so we can have a listen! And don't worry, we try to help, not take the piss! Twisted Evil If I can control myself that is! hehe Joking mate!)
