Post subject: Comercial Fashion Junkies Bad For Trance Industry.....agree? |
|

It seems one of the problems with dance music [such as trance] is there seems to be too many comercial DJ's, pushing certain sounds and types of trance, in an attempt to promote their own brand of cheesy easily accessable trance. DJ's such as Dave Pearce and Judge Jules seem to have fallen into this trap.
The main offenders though, seem to be the people behind many trance albums that are released. Ministry used to release some good stuff but now it seems they've resorted to a 'free ringtone when you buy...', competition, shameless promtion, comercial type of outfit. Which means that chart type trance, which makes more money and sells more accesories, takes priorty over actuall quality.
Worse than this though, is the dance industries apparent attempt to 'create' the image of a 'clubber' into the mould of their liking. By doing this they are then able to sell the 'clubber' everything he/she needs to exisit as this clubber. Even reputible magazines like Mixmag bombard us with pictures of new 'trends' in the dance scene and with lines such as 'clubs you have to do this week' as if we were not able to make up our own minds on were we go, what we listen to and what we wear.
Seems strange that when an organisation in the dance industry reccomends (almost demands) us to go somewhere etc. that the advertisment will be nearby on the web/mag page.
Some people ask where all the uplifting trance has gone.........comercial fashion junkies are destroying it with there attempt to exploit the good people of trance land by making you think you should be a 'clubber' - 'clubber' as defined by the ideals of the industry.

I think most people will agree with your points here. Money is ruling everything - even the world of electronic dance music.
The big problem is probably not that it has been commercialized but rather that only a small part of the industry has - the part that promote the "cheesy" music rather than the quality music most of us want.
This has lead to the fact that "normal" people (people who's not into trance etc.) only knows about the trance-scene the "cheesy" promotors gives them.
If the quality-part of the industry also had been commercialized in the same way it would probably have lead to the end of the cheesy part as most people would have known the difference.

It's not just trance/music in general though is it. Everything nowadays is shoddy, low quality crap that puts money and profit way above quality. Even down to the small things in life like lightbulbs which last for maybe a month or two before burning out, forcing you to spend more and more money on the things. It's one big downward spiral
