Biography:
Petri Suhonen is 23 years old electronic musician from Finland. “I live in a little village called Pilkanmaa. It's located about 140 km to north-east from Helsinki. I have a full-time day job in a big supermarket in the groceries and when I have spare time I produce music. I have no musical education but my grandfather was a professional drummer so drums, rhythm and "noise" has always interested me ;)
I got my very first touch to composing back in to ´95 when I found the mod-trackers for PC. Fast Tracker II was my favourite. I did some short, hardly musical pieces with it, just for my own pleasure. But as for me they we're good bound towards to the world of electronic music.
Few years later I upgraded my PC and found somenew dimensions through it. I got some early versions of some well known music softwares and started to play around with them. It was so interesting! A totally new era started for me :) At summer '00 I finished my very first track. The genre was some sort of drum&bass/breakbeat
spiced with trance elements. Can't remember the title, but my project name was called "Da Jai Thepe"... Weird one... The track got below ten downloads (like all my friends lol) from the mp3.com and I got some decent feedback from the listeners. It was so
exciting! I got quite interested of working with electronic music.
I started to get more music software and tried some techny/experimental stuff. Then at '00-01 I got in touch with trance-style; I bought some trance compilation albums and I started to really like trance music! What an experience it was when I heard a track called "No Signs Of Live" by Talla 2XLC & Airfire! I think that track was the thing that enlighted me to the beauty of trance and electronic music overall :)
At summer '01 I finished two tracks for my own entertainment and to make my friends happy. Or sad. I named the first one "Daystar" and the second one "The New Beginning". It was uplifting melodic trance with the typical sound of 2001. Me and
my good friend Mikko actually tried to do some vocals for the first track and the results were...unique! :)
Then, after a year at summer 2002 I did a track called "Alright" under a project name "High Stream". It was very uplifting one again. I send the download link to some Finnish dance-related forums and to almighty trance.nu. I started to get good feedback from the readers and finally had my very first DJ support from one fantastic finnish producer/DJ Matti Laamanen (aka Cosmicman) who played it in his set in club Hallmark, Finland. I rejoiced! :D Then one of the trance.nu forum readers forwarded
this track to Sound-Assault-Music (licensing broker in UK) and we made a deal. One top class british producer and my net friend Gregory Murray did some modifications
and polishing and German trance-act D.R.P remixed it. This track is still unpublished. But who knows maybe I'll do a remake of it later in the future.
And summer 2003 I had an idea for my very first signed and released track (through Galactive Records) called "Turnpoint" under the project name "Primo Lux"!
I finished it, send the link into trance.nu forums and I think people liked it :) One of the head admins of trance.nu, Stian Klo aka LikWit contacted me and forwarded the track to Raz Nitzan, the A&R guy of the awesome Fundamental Recordings in Holland. We made a deal and the amazing guys of Fundamental started to do their promoting. I was in SHOCK (in a positive way of course) when i got email from Raz telling me that Armin Van Buuren himself has played it in his own radio show "A State Of Trance"!! A total dream come true! "Turnpoint" got support from all the excellent DJ's around: Ferry Corsten, Armin, Lange, Dj Jean, Niklas Harding,
Pedro Del Mar, etc. and also few great DJ's from Finland like Magellan Project and Tom Hyppänen has spinned it around alot.
Also "Turnpoint" popped in to the respected Dutch Dance Chart IDP, to position 1 :) It was so stunning to see it there...totally.
Lot's of artists and producers have influenced me. Producers like (to name
a few importants) Armin, Ferry, Talla, Flutlicht, Tiesto (especially the
Gouryella project where he's involved),Paul Van Dyk, Vincent De
Moor, George Acosta, Ralphie B, Cosmicman, Slusnik Luna, Airwave and
Faithless have influenced me a lot. In fact, these guys have gave me the
idea what trance really can be! Especially the works they've done
starting from the year '00 in to present.
I haven't done DJ'ing because I dont have the knowhow or equipment to do so. I'm concentrating to producing and improving my producing skills for now, so no DJ'ing at the moment. Who knows, maybe later...”
