Latest offering of trance remixes from the Japanese diva
A month ago, I mentioned some news about the Japanese artist of the moment with her new trance remixes from a number of trance genuises. The album has finally been released and ivibes managed to obtain a copy from Japan to review. Here was the tracklist of the CD which I glanced over just before I listened:
01. Depend on you - Remixed by Svenson & Gielen 02. M - Remixed by Above & Beyond 03. Trauma - Remixed by JamX & De Leon's DuMonde 04. UNITE! - Remixed by Airwave 05. Surreal - Remixed by Marc et Claude 06. Audience - Remixed by Darren Tate 07. Fly high - Remixed by VooDoo & Serano 08. Immature - Remixed by Koglin & Heath 09. Evolution - Remixed by Goldenscan 10. Kanariya - Remixed by system F 11. Appears - Remixed by Armin van Buuren 12. Boys & Girls - Remixed by Push 13. UNITE! - Remixed by Moogwai 14. A Song for XX - Remixed by Ferry Corsten
Just by glancing at that, who wouldn't be amazed? I sure was. Previous trance remixes of Ayumi Hamasaki's tracks from 1999-2001 were of truly exceptional standard; making note of the Ferry Corsten Mix of "Whatever", Vincent de Moor's Mix of "Fly High", and more recently; Rank 1's Mix of "Far Away".
The first thing which shocked me was the length of the songs on the CD. All under 5 minutes. All edits. That was disappointing at first sight already. Going through each track, I spotted the usual quality of the producers above, but crammed in the space of such a small time. It did not really give enough time for the songs to sparkle.
I noted that there were several relatively decent remixes (aside from the track length), especially the remixes from Above & Beyond, Ferry Corsten (Song for XX), as well as Push and Airwave. What I was most disappointed about was the Armin van Buuren Mix. For those of you who follow Armin's ID-T Radio sets every Friday night at www.id-t.com will have heard the full version. This edit in my opinion is no where near as good as the full version; nor are the other tracks of which I have heard the full version for.
All in all; we have the massive lineup of high quality producers, but not enough substance there.
As they say; its quality, not quantity.
Lets hope Avex Traxx releases full versions soon.
