Nash T produces this track under the guise of Bluephaze for Kasey Taylor's Vapour Recordings. Fellow Australian Quest (Luke Chable) adds his remix quality and individual style all over this, providing a taste of true Australian progressive! From the releases of "the bell" and his outstanding productions on EQ-can he get any better?
CDR PROMO:
"What Is Music" Original Mix "What Is Music" Quest Mix
ORIGINAL MIX:
The original mix starts out with a male vocal haunting a deep vox-"What is music" . A flowing synth ebbs in the background. A deep tribal bassline appears gathering the pace for the track, building on every phrase. A cool whisping effect cuts in to make the bassline more dominent. It storms through a couple of phrases giving you a taster of what is to come. Again the whisping effects snap to lead the track into an effects packed stage. Each effect brilliantly timed and placed to get its full energy. A quarter of the way in the track maintains a haunting synth and some clicking effects. On every other beat an extra percussive beat is added to give it a more funky and forceful feel. The track fades slightly only to erupt again into full flight with some cutting reverbed effects! The vox reappears effected with echoes to fullfil the track and give it a chunky element. Its dies to the breakdown leaving the vox to fly solo and broaden the atmosphere. It holds together well. The bassline storms in again suddenly, not letting you catch breath or take a minute away from the tempo of the journey created. It flows through the last quarter holding all the elements it had through the first stages of the track, keeping its tempo and providing a true progressive sound!
QUEST REMIX:
Again Quest starts out exposing the vox of the title. A powerful bassline figures with minimal effects joining it through the first couple of phrases, only for a funky vibe and deep rumbling bassline to layer the track and filter through building a strong platform for whats to come. It rolls along gathering elements as it goes. The vox echoes with every step the bassline takes. A spacey atmospheric synth is present in the background sweeping through the see the bassline die. In conjunction with the bass dying an electro feel builds to leave isolated "what is music". Electro is the key for the rise again and formation of the build to the bassline. The synth follows suit and combines with the funky effects to give the track a real bouncy effect through the 3/4 section. As you feel the track should be beginning to break it defy's the "norm" and continues to rise edging on trancey effects, whilst holding a groovy/funky bassline. It cuts like it has ended but storms back finishing off a job it has created! rumbling the speakers with the menacing bass!
Both sides to this are excellent. The original mix has all the elements of Nukem/Chab tribal feel with a vox to suit any progressive mind. Again as we have seen from 'Bluephaze' and Vapour each side holds a different aspect -appealing to a range of different tastes and demands. Quest has a slightly ambient feel to it ..but is more powerful on the bassline front-but these contrast each other to work out brilliantly. This track can only take the same line as 'the Bell' and become a favourite for many!
No doubt we will see these guys again very soon!
