Yesterday MTV started playing this brand new and controversial musicvideo. While the producer of it was afraid it would be banned in all major music-tv-channels he was relieved to finally see it on the tv-screen.
"If the controversial text of «Baby's got a temper» made the critics yell it will be exciting to see how they react on the video". It containt a raw scene with a naked girl milking a cow. According to the press The Prodigy discussed whether this scene was to perverted and if they needed to remove it to get the tune played at the big tv-channels. Tune in on your favourite music channel to see if the scene is there or not =P
Anyway, what you probably didn't know about the video is that it was directed and produced by the Norwegian/Swedish mediacreators Traktor. Earlier they have created commercials for brands like Diesel, Volvo and Nike. Not to mention their musicvideos for Fatboy Slim, Basement Jaxx and now The Prodigy.
Traktor is wellknown for taking risks and taking it to the edge. They have created commercials that have been loved be the marketing-teams, while the board of directors have had to kick out the marketers. No wonder Keith Flint and the rest of The Prodigy chose Traktor.
Yesterday the video had world-premiere at MTV. It was shown late, late at night... According to Ole Sanders from Traktor, The Prodigy are very happy about the result of their work. "I got three hard, sweaty hugs from Keith after the presentation, but he might have been in need of sudden bodily contact" Sanders say. The record company reacted with fearful joy, and disappeared down the street with the video in their hand and a flickering gaze. It turned up on MTV the same night and was played over and over in a loop all night.
Furthermore Sanders agree that the songtext is a bit controversial but that's not his responsibility. However, what is his responsibility is the naked, cowmilking girls who doesn't exactly behave as fine milkmaids where they spout toutfresh cowmilk in their faces. But if you look at this in an artistic way....
"It's all about three men who have discovered that cows produce better milk if they listen to loud music. Extremely much better milk. It turns out the the villagers rather wants to drink milk than ride the merry-go-round..."
When Traktor directed the Fatboy Slim video they travelled to a small island next to Grenada, Caribbean (you remember that video with the music that made everyone dance like madmans?). The island will never be the same. Local residents helped ruin the whole marketplace in the ordinarily peaceful village. What the police did? Nothing! The local chief constable had been persuaded to agree on the destructions. Luckily the takings went a bit more peaceful in Prague.
"The Prodigy are very popular in Prague, hence the furore at the location. We built the amusement park from ground up in an industrial area. People spied upon us with binoculars" Sanders says.
"We had 60 cows who were supposed to be camera-friendly. I'm not sure what camera they were friendly to, because our cameras were constantly trampled into warm cowpats. Some cow-pooh was stuck on our negatives, but that just created some atmosphere... Now I know how hard it is to make western-movies, and my respect for John Wayne has increased."
