Jaimy & Kenny D, the duo who have produced stunning tracks in the past such as 'Caught Me Running' which saw a DJ Tiesto Remix, and also a number of tracks which Paul van Dyk hammered in 2000-1, have
Jaimy & Kenny D are 2 dutch producers Dennis Bune and Kenny Doekhie. Kenny D started out being a bass-guitar player as a hobby, before turning into a studio engineer and producer. In 1994, he teamed up with Dennis Bune to produce the dynamic Jaimy & Kenny D duo.
Since then, they have put out a whooping 120 productions, with plays from afar as Erick Morillo, to Paul van Dyk to DJ Tiesto and they released their artist album in the summer of 2001 titled "Is There Any Other Way".
Their next release is one under "Kansas" titled "We Don't Love" which is a massively progressive bubbler! Be sure to check that out!
Hi guys, thanks for the time to do this interview for i:Vibes, it’s greatly appreciated and I’m sure the readers will enjoy this!
i:Vibes: Where do your music influences, likes, dislikes, etc?
Jaimy: For me, my infuences come from as diverse as Prince, to Danny Tenaglia, Satoshi Tomiie, to the sounds of Paul Oakenfold. Kenny D: Damascus Miller, Faithless, Basement Jaxx, and Junior Vasquez have all been a part of what influences me over the past few years
Jaimy & Kenny D: Both of us have a dislike for Organ Church Music, and also meaningless Housemusic.
i:Vibes: How do you guys describe the music you produce as the stuff you have come out with has had tremendous support by everyone from David Morales to Paul van Dyk and beyond, bringing in plays from all genres of DJs
Jaimy & Kenny D: Our music is music that was designed to be danced to.. Basically open-minded Housemusic that was meant to be on the dancefloor, and not any of the meaningless House which we hear from time to time now.
i:Vibes: You 2 have been producing under J & K D for quite a while now, putting out tremenedous amount of releases in the past on various labels from United to Black Hole and not to Perfecto, how has this musical journey been like for the two of you? and what do you see coming up in the future for the two of you in terms of your music.
Jaimy & Kenny D: We have been making Housemusic together for 6 years now. The first three years we were released under our own names at Outland Records, Arcade,Rhytm Records, BMG and Combined Forces; and since 1999, we have been putting releases out on Black Hole’s Wildlife label. Recently we also started releasing on Black Hole’s Fatal Tracks label, the more dirtier and funkier side of Black Hole Records..
i:Vibes: One of your latest releases "Repartee" on the Underground Sounds of Holland EP on Perfecto has been causing quite a stir... How'd you guys get to producing on the Perfecto label? and are there any more releases towards that label in the future?
Our release on Perfecto came about through DJ Emjay at the Kremlin who gave us a tip that Perfecto was looking for a new release. And from then, we sent in the track and it came out on the Underground Sounds of Holland. At the moment further releases on Perfecto are not known yet.
i:Vibes: Little has been heard of in terms of the DJing on both your ends, are there future plans to envelop Jaimy and Kenny D into a live act or DJ individually? Perhaps into the realms of Asia or the Americas?
Jaimy & Kenny D: Jaimy has been DJing for 6 years but not on a large scale. Most of the time is spent in the studio but time is made for DJing at big events around Holland and abroad.
Next month Jaimy will be DJing in Miami at the reopening of a nightclub, so if any of you are in Miami near that time, check out our website for more details.
i:Vibes: To me, the sound you guys put out is on the funky tip of trance, with artists such as Sander Kleinenberg or DJ Rene as those who I see some sort of relation to... Are there plans to digress into a more trancier sound? or perhaps a collaboration with another major artist?
Jaimy & Kenny D: No, actually, we want to go less into trance. Our aim now is to make more progressive house orientated tracks and move away from the trance sound.
In terms of major collaborations, we have none planned for the near future, but obviously there is scope for possibilities in the future.
Our next single will be releasing a new track with a vocalist by the name of Victoria Wilson James, so keep an eye out for that one!
i:Vibes: Which DJs / producers have had your attention in the past? the present? and possibly the future?
Jaimy & Kenny D: Stephan K and John Creamer, Rollo, Deep Dish, Sasha, John Digweed, and respect to Satoshi Tomiie who gave us a great, happy feeling with his set at the Kremlin!
i:Vibes: Anything else you guys would like to add?
Jaimy & Kenny D: Keep on Dancing!
Thanks to Tom @ Soundshapes for helping out on this and thanks to Jaimy & Kenny D!
