The classic from yesteryear from Riva was a track titled Stringer. Now, in 2002, Riva is back, and this time, we see a superb remix from Pablo Gargano to come with it, out on London Records shortly.
Riva's "Stringer" and "Mistral" were a couple of the top tunes from 2001, seeing heavy plays from just about all the big jocks around.
Now, in 2002, Riva's "Time is the Healer" is set for a release on London Recordings during the early part of this summer, with a couple of remixes. i:Vibes has gotten their hands on the superb Pablo Gargano Remix. From the owner of Eve Records, who has been affiliated with Nimrod, Jose Amnesia, and numerous other household names, Pablo has been one of the stars of the UK progressive scene, bringing in the more melodic side of that scene, and this is no exception.
Starting off with one of those vibes you'd expect from the beginning of perhaps a Low End Specialists set, or a Steve Lawler set, with that funky, tribal drum laiden beat which would turn any dance floor into a feeding frenzy, reminding me of something that would emanate from a Tarantella & Redanka production.
A very tribal Pablo Gargano production, this delves deeper than his usual stuff, and is by no means and worse. After a minute or so of tribal repurcussions, pads begin to pull in from the background, giving a truly wonderful atmosphere whilst still keeping it dark and thumping.
This remix has taken very few of the elements from the original, and put it into a deeper and more delving track which would be a perfect choice for anyone from Sasha to Pappa to Danny Tenaglia.
Heading back to the remix, the short break which comes from the speakers at just over 4 minutes is superb, teasing the crowd into a frenzy, and from then on, the beat seems to step up slightly.
No vocals? think again... At just after 5 minutes, the vocals from the original are brought in, and truly great female vocals they are, perfectly compilmenting the thumping tribal beats which Pablo has put to this mix, and to me, this track brings in all the elements of a top notch track and is very much the sound of the moment.
Perfect to start with, perfect to end with, or just to throw in in the middle, this gets a superb 9/10 from me.
