I am sharing my impressions of this summer compilation in the my first review @ [i:Vibes]
"The Official Amnesia Ibiza 2001 2CD" What a very unusual compilation I have bought this summer in Spain... These two CDs were released by Tempo Music Barcelona. It was hard for me to understand the tracks selection, but let's just have a look at these CDs:
CD01 (the 02 am session) Very "user friendly" disc, made almost in "easy listening" style, compilated as a non-stop 70 minutes mix. This is not trance, this is not techno and even not... ;) It's just the summer sound: happy, cheerful people having a really great time at the Mediterranean island Ibiza. Very impressive atmosphere (it's just a party, a clubnight, etc, you don't have to look at the tracklist, CD cover, read the titles - it is not important). Also a big number of Spanish sounds is represented at CD 1: folk instruments also play an important role here - typical ambient influences very much, I just have remembered those sunny days in Spain when I listened to these ones at home in Russia. The music itself: no finely depicted style here, the majority of the names are not known for me (tracklist included ;)).
CD02 (the 05 am session) This one is even more strange than the first. Tracks of 05 am (first five at the second disc) are very primitive, this is not music for headphones, just for the dancefloor (which also annoya after few inutes of listening). The party spirit is still here, but the sound is not that impressive and unique. But Mr. Mauro Picotto with his bangin' techno at track 06 starts the dance (finally!). Then a little pause for a couple of tracks, and comes Sound De-zign with the Coast to Coast remix of "Happiness". This one remix is not good here. These male and female vocals disturb everthing. When I heard "Happiness" at Mayday 2001 performed live by Paul van Dyk - it was absolutely different track, different spirit... CD02 up to the end is filled with absolute trance/techno hits of the recent times. Compilators could post these themes on both CDs and avoid such concentration, I think. Overall impresion: Ideal for Ibiza 2001 visitors - you will have 140 minutes of "sweetest summer memories" in your musical archive.
