Arvikafestivalen 2002 11-13 July [i:vibes] review of DJ Peace Division (Justin Drake): Impetus: 1400
Same story as the previous evening with an absent crowd it was a challenge to get the party going. This didn’t seem to bother DJ Peace Division and he played his sets in a convincing and routinely manner.
His sessions had the kind of flow and energy that were missing in sessions played at the same time the previous day. Although there were very few people dancing, you could get the impression that DJ Peace Division was enjoying his turn at the booth.
The visuals were equally good and it seemed to be a bit more use of several different lighting systems to really round up a fairly good set. Unfortunately later on the small crowd got even smaller but this was not a result of DJ Peace Division’s performance.
Again the dreaded early hours at the Impetus dance floor proved to be a hindrance for a more complete session, but DJ Peace Division did produce a convincing performance.
Arvikafestivalen 2002 11-13 July [i:vibes] review of Sound Of Habib: Pluto: 2100
Sound of Habib was a pleasant surprise. We came across some notes stating they would have a 5 hour set and found this rather interesting and worth a visit. Sound of Habib proved to be a collective of DJs, rappers and music technicians with some interesting styles.
They started with some DJ-ing and rap and soon progressed into traditional house with different techno crossovers. It was exciting to observe their energetic and playful performance on stage, dressed in classic sportswear and all six of them dancing to their own beats.
The setting was very intimate and the Pluto stage proved to be a proper dance hall for the Sound of Habib crew, not like Impetus with its massive lights and crowd. Dancers and onlookers alike were not typical club goers and the spectators consisted of a fine mix of different people, styles and ages; very festival like.
An interesting thought would be to experience Sound of Habib performing at the Impetus with a more direct club setting. Sound of Habib was well worth a visit and we dropped by several times during their long session.
Arvikafestivalen 2002 11-13 July [i:vibes] review of DJ Johti Sidhu: Impetus: 2100
A very promising outlook to the event hosted by DJ Johti Sidhu at the Impetus hall were the fact that the club crowd finally showed up and got ready to have a good time on the dance floor.
With a very hard and positive performance DJ Johti Sidhu commanded the crowd with his energetic beats and the previously absent dance crowd now were in the mood for some serious clubbing. The DJ had an unprecedented connection with the clubbers and the audience responded with an appreciative attitude and it showed in their presence.
When you get the all-important three ingredients together; hard beats, excellent motion graphics/lights and grateful clubbers, you get the atmosphere of memorable proportions, and DJ Johti Sidhu’s session proved to be just that.
The visual stimulants were much more present and defining for the evening and the clubbers on the dance floor responded instantly when the DJ produced one set after another with even more intensity and drive.
In all aspects a excellent performance by DJ Johti Sidhu and very promising for things to come at the Impetus dance hall this Friday evening. The people present are also worth mentioning since they made such an engaged audience.
