Out on a limited number of promos, being played by Sasha himself, Hybrid, and many other DJ’s, this is bound to be one of the biggest releases of 2002.
It took Sasha 5 years to produce AirDrawnDagger, although most of the album was made in the last 18 months, together with production partner Charlie May and ‘newcomer’ Junkie XL. Wavy Gravy will be the first release of this album, and it looks to me that it will be a big tune!
Starting off with a few streaks of angelic sounds to set a mood, swiftly followed by an amazing breakbeat, this isn’t your normal Sasha tune like Xpander, Scorchio or all those others he did. This is breakbeat, moody, atmospheric. Adding to the song is a guitar-like sound, that builds the melody. Rapidly changing notes, and adding different layers, like another melody, but this time more distinctive, and ‘sharper’ on the ears.
Together with the beat, there’s a high-pitched sound, that is looped throughout the song. And of course, a piano couldn’t be left out. The piano uses a separate melody, combining all the other melodies, to form a song which just screams ‘heaven’.
Slowly building the beats and melody down, down to bliss sounds, where you only are aware of the music, and nothing else.
When this song gets played, I imagine a lot of people dancing to it, but there will also be a select few, experiencing this song, letting it run through their vains. Joining Sasha to his magical world, where no pain exists, no torture, no worries, only happiness, and music exists.
In my opinion, this is one of the highlights of 2002. But I understand that a lot of people will say its too slow, and they are entitled to their own opinion, but mine stays.
