'Mechanism presents an exclusive 2 track EP from those west coast funksters Jondi and Spesh working with Brian Stillwater. Between these two recording names a large proportion of the coolest underground labels have been covered... Bedrock, Renaissance, Undercurrent, Imago..the list goes on ..these guys are almost institutions!! Jondi & Spesh currently have singles out on Looq Records, Bedrock Black and Renaissance with Jerry Bonham as JSJ.
" We are really excited about ' The Griptape EP', with it's cryptic reference to skateboarding. The dark, hypnotic funk of these two tracks is true quality and interestingly unique. We felt it would be a bit of a giggle and a challenge to our mastering engineer, Walter, to cut a couple of lockgrooves, i hope you all find them useful."
The A side: ' Backside Tailside' is the more chunky of the two tracks. A cool, funky groove is punctuated by dark and twisted, dirty effects. Eerie pads start to creep into the mix as the track builds to the breakdown which strips the track down to the kick and bassline before introducing an even dirtier distorted hooks. Dark but very Groovy funk!! "Backbeats Lockgroove"- Bonus beats and a lockgroove for your Djing delite!!
The B side: 'Big Air' is a similar production but on a slightly lighter and deeper vibe. A techy percussion arrangement with a groove driven bassline set the tone for this track. the dirty hook is complimented by a soft underlying pad which helps this track to float along nicely. The breakdown strips the track right down before dropping back into its solid groove. "Bigbeats Lockgroove" - More bonus beats and a lockgroove for your Djing pleasure!!
