Darren Tate and Jono Grant, one third of the act Above & Beyond have put together this astonishing collaboration which is definitely set to please trance fans alike with its superb riffs and breakdowns. The Tune of the week
The Mondo Records release actually features 2 tracks featuring 3 of the most affluent producers in recent years; Darren Tate, Jono Grant and Mike Koglin, all 3 having pushed out numerous solo productions, remixes and numerous others before putting this LP together.
Tracklisting:
A1. Darren Tate vs Jono Grant - Let The Light Shine Through B1. Darren Tate vs Mike Koglin - Now is the Time
Starting off with the tune of the week, we start off with a mix between something coming from Ferry Corsten and something which I could imagine coming from someone like Green Court, a superb bubbly bassline as it builds up to a crescendo within the first minute or so before breaking into the initial break.
With its synths and minimal crisp vocal line, the energy and feeling of the track is noticeable early in the track and out of this break comes the continuation of where the initial bassline led off from, combined with superb synths and melodies.
The best part of the song in my opinion is the beautiful break which lasts easily over a minute, and puts you into a euphoric state with that beautiful synth mould, and when the vocals "Let the Light Shine in" come through, you can imagine the dance floor about to explode, but it keeps building and building into a crescendo which would drive the hands up to the limit.
Bringing the best of both Darren Tate and Jono Grant into this production, this is definitely one of my favourites for 2002 already and is set to stay in the box for months to come.
Darren Tate & Mike Koglin's collaboration is none less worthy and a more pumping and driving track this is, if you had heard Mike Koglin's Torture Garden releases, this may remind you of something from his K-Lab guise. A rolling and driving track, the darker, more pumping basslines gets you in the mood for a huge production.
The synth sequence from this track is definitely addictive and reminds you somewhat of the acid era or something which would emanate from Tidy Trax these days.. mesmerizing and efficient before seemingly slowing down to a halt....
But as you would imagine, this is only the halfway point. As the break ensues, the melodic and euphoric synths build up to a melting point whilst teasing the crowds and listeners before coming through with a lovely breakbeat sequence which is what you are finding in some of the best productions these days.
Definitely a peak time track, this production is more Mike Koglin orientated than Darren Tate but you can pick up elements from both influences in this huge uplifting blinder.
It was a truly hard decision between these two tracks to choose as the tune of the week as they are both truly exceptional tracks with exceptionally high standards of production. So pick it up to hear the best of these 3 artists.
