One of our winner's friends wrote a review about the night, what he thought about his first progressive party EVER! Did he like it? He sure did...
Hi there!
Last friday I went to my first real live PROGRESSIVE experience here in a club in Belgium. First of all I wanna say I went there with no real expectations since I knew Danny spins some phat funky tribal progressive sounds, so not really my style. After a long wait in the almost freezing cold a the frontdoor of the club we were let in around 23.30. When I went in I immediately heard some easy progressive tunes coming out of the speakers. Very nice to listen to and let us come somewhat in the mood.
At 12 o´clock DJ Marko (from La Rocca) entered the decks. He went for a 90 minutes warming up progressive (trance) set to make the people ready for Howells. I have to say that I was really impressed by the playing style of Marko, he didn´t do a storming set but played some really nice progressive, which I would have never expected from a Belgian DJ. At the end of his set he played the great Yunus - red Pilot and I was in heaven of course, my friend (who´s not that much into music had no idea why I found this track so great, well...I know better ). The last 30 minutes were really great! Then Howells entered the decks around 01.30.
In the meanwhile the club was at his capacity and the crowd was pretty wel warmed up by Marko. Howells started of with some nice house and the people were liking it, everyone was raising their hands towards Danny and he seemed to love it too. He was making the crowd crazy with his gestures and his kicking house tunes. I was enjoying the music and liked it but house, yeah pure house...I wanted to hear some phat ass progressive! He went for about an hour house, tribal and funky tunes. In the meanwhile we went to look for the other (smaller) room were Frozen DJ´s were spinning, when I entered the room James Holden - horizons was banging, man I really went crazy, that was the first time I heard the tune in a club somewhere...after some 20 minutes in the smaller room we went back to see Howells, the music evolved into some dark tribal and harder progressive tunes really building up and building up. We found a place to dance. And man, what I´m telling u now is probably the best hour of music I ever heard in my life! Omg, never experienced something like this before. Really hard haunting progressive tunes were driving the crowd to a climax, The music really got inside me and I couldn´t stand still anymore (something that doesn´t happen that much) He played some tunes I would probably not play here on my comp but the atmosphere was so going to a climax, U could feel it really haunted you. Anyway I can say this was the best experience I´ve ever had with music (damn what if Sasha or Digweed spin!).
After the storming hour of prog and tribal tunes he went for an awsome ambient tune, everyone was quiet enjoying this piece of beautiful music. After it he went on for some more progressive, building and building but he would never equal the climax in that hour, afterwards he played some very hard tribal, breakbeat and house (really not my style ) But I thought he was gonna do an incredible last 30 minutes, it was better at the end but I expected and absolute climax which stayed out (I was begging he played xpander or so but nope) All in all a great night to never forget. Danny learned the Belgians some hard progressive and from what I saw the people appreciated the music very much. Tnx for the great night Danny!
Thank you Peter for the party report!
