Finally, the album that has been awaited for months has been released. The first artist album released by Laurent Veronnez, with solely Airwave productions... Is it worth the wait? Read on...
Airwave has been one of the most consistent producers in the scene: bringing out a load of records under guises like The Green Martian, Planisphere, V-One, … But we all were waiting for his first artist album to be released. And now, that day has come!
12 beautiful crafted tracks spread over one CD.
Tracklisting: 1. I Want To Believe (Remix) 2. Musings Of A Lifetime 3. Save Me 4. Another Dimension 5. Devotion 6. Above The Sky (Remix) 7. Alone In The Dark 8. Innerspace 9. Ladyblue 10. When Things Go Wrong … 11. Sunspot (DCML Mix) 12. Trustno1
All tracks are written by Laurent Veronnez except for Sunspot, there he had some help from Armin Van Buuren, or did Armin get some help from him?
I Want To Believe starts off very chill, but has that typical Airwave sound to it, what else can you expect? Beautiful strings, great effects, and of course, the infamous beat that is present in most of his Airwave productions.
Moving on to Musings Of A Lifetime brings you a very different track. It doesn’t start off chilled like I Want To Believe, but its directly in your face with a beat, and the beginning of the melody. Again, that melody is filled with strings, that only Airwave seems to produce these days. Divinity is the word that comes to mind when I hear those strings during the breakdown…
The next song is Save Me which doesn’t need an introduction, since this got a standalone release, that got played by all the top jocks. This is so good… memories of dancing…
Another Dimension is nothing like would expect from Airwave, its much harder, and the melody used in this track is very different then what we are used to from Airwave. But still, this is a great track, ideal for a harder edged set, or just when you feel like dropping a track that will cause damage on the dancefloor. The breakdown during this track is beautiful cause its so simple, yet effective…
Devotion is something that Airwave has. To the music!! He devotes a lot of time for his productions, and you can hear that when you listen to any song that he has made so far. This has a funky sound to it, but it works so good with all the other elements: the beat, the melody, the drums, the strings (which aren’t that present in this track). Good shit :p
The next one is a remix of Above The Sky. A fast-paced track that everyone knows, since it got played by all the DJ’s like DJ Tiësto (nr 1 DJ in the world, according to Mixmag, not i:Vibes). This remix is much faster, and lost a few of the layers used in the original release, making this a perfect song for 2002.
Alone In The Dark is the next instalment on this CD. This is one of those tracks that can completely change your mood, whether you are angry, sad, depressed, this has been made solely for one purpose: to make you dance till you drop… The strings in this track are from another world.
This album just gets better and better the further you go into it, cause the next song is probably L-Vee’s most known track Innerspace. This track has it all, a phenomenal bass, again those strings that make you crave for more, but that’s not it. The emotions attached to this song, make this a nr 1 song for a lot of people. Innerspace starts of chill, that infamous melody, those emotions, … makes me wonder what Airwave was going through when he produced this song. This is in my opinion his best production ever. When a DJ drops this, you know what you can expect, hands in the air, everyone dancing, everyone going berserk to this song!
Ladyblue can’t be underestimated. After hearing this only once, you’ll think: “What’s the big deal about this song?” But listen again, and then it’ll hit you. That melody, is so original, yet so simple, it isn’t in your face, its subtle, so subtle that you wont notice it the first time around. This is one of those tracks that will become many people’s favourite.
What happens to people When Things Go Wrong … ? Do you know? Well this song is maybe a source of inspiration. Someone I know said that this is more emotional then Innerspace. He said this to me when I hadn’t heard When Things Go Wrong … so it was very hard for me to believe him. But after hearing this song, I can honestly say that this is as emotional as Innerspace, if not more. But what will other people think of this one?
When L-Vee teams up with Dutch DJ & producer Armin Van Buuren, you get Sunspot. Influences from both Armin and L-Vee are filling this cooperation. This has just been released, and all opinions on this track are unanimous: two thumbs up! Sunspot will be big… How can it not be? Two of the best producers working together results in a great track of course.
The last song on this CD is Trustno1. Which makes for an ideal ending song. I don’t know what to think of this track. It’s so not Airwave like, but still it is a good song…
On the sleeve notes, L-Vee thanks a bunch of people, but one person in particular: BT aka Brian Transeau ‘ for the music, the inspiration, the guidance, and the spirit. So BT was a huge example for him. But what we can’t forget is that L-Vee on his own is a huge example for a lot of other people. I wonder who will thank him for the music, the inspiration, the guidance, and the spirit on his/her CD.
I hope L-Vee will release another album soon, maybe one of his other aliases? Like Planisphere...
Conclusion: this album is a must-have! Go out and buy it this very moment, since all tracks on this album are top notch, and not one single track is a filler, something that is normal with other albums. L-Vee did it again :)
