As Impulz draws nearer and nearer, the official theme has been produced and we have the production powers of Misja Helsloot & Roland Kramer combined with some sweet remixes.
Misja Helsloot & Roland K are part of a big movement this year, putting together their own label Gesture Music, and a few top notch productions to fill in the first couple of releases. This collaboration to put together the Impulz Theme is equally impressive, bringing together elements of trance, and progressive, and combining percussions, synths, huge drum sequences and even vocals in this definitive track towards the end of the year.
Remixes Include:
1. Instrumental Mix 2. Vocal Mix (featuring the vocals of Nicole) 3. Don Diablo Mix 4. Lemon 8 Mix
Instrumental
Beginning with the basics, the instrumental mix is one which would remind many of the progressive days of a few years back, bringing together beautiful melodies, enchanting background chorals and an equally mesmerising bassline. Clocking in at just under 7 and a half minutes, "Different World" really aims to build and build into a subtle fiery up until nearly 5 minutes into the track. The atmospheric grooves and pads will definitely sound awesome in a large dance hall, cutting the edges of progressive house, trance and even the more techier side of things. This would probably not be a peak time track, more likely pulling in the 10pm DJs or the towards the end of the night at a big gig, but the track definitely brings together sounds which we are finding in an increasingly few tracks.
Vocal
There are those of you who love the vocals and those of you who hate them, but even if you are part of the latter group, the vocal mix adds a cool touch to the melody and bassline with a subtle feel of german style trance in it. The fortunate thing about the track is the the vocals are not overused and seems like an excellent complement to the instrumental mix and my personal preference out of the so far.
Don Diablo Mix
If you expected similarities from this mix to the previous 2, then you may be in for a surprise. Don Diablo, the man who is responsible for putting together the Impulz compilation, puts in a more energetic and techier tinged production, and even adds in a touch of 4/4 breaks dabbed in throughout the track and blinding electronic synths. A combination between Germans DJs @ Work, Circulation and Thomas Heckman is how I would describe this production as. Probably my top pick of the lot, this seems to me as a peak time stormer if pitched up to the standard +2-ish speeds and maintains the original melodic aspect whilst combining additional effects one would not likely expect from a remix. Great remix!
Lemon 8 Mix
The elusive Lemon 8, the man who has been responsible for top quality remixes and productions across Europe for the past couple of years is here with his interpretation of Different World. All I can say is if you are into the darker, more chugging side of trance, which borders closely to techno then this is one for you. The haunting bassline which has the pitch bend applied to it seemingly constantly will move the dancefloor I guarantee it and the sublime inclusion of vocal samples keeps the crowd asking for more. The structure of the remix is not dissimilar to other Lemon 8 remixes, with his melodic touch coming in at the big break just past the half way point before pushing the crowd for more. Imagine Nick Warren or Dave Seaman's older Global Underground CDs such as Nick Warren in Budapest then you get the kind of track I'm talking about here. If you haven't go a GU CD to reflect on, then I suggest you check this out!
An excellent package which will undoubtedly have dancefloor support will be released on Gesture Music on December 9th across Europe. Furthermore for those of you attending Impulz on the 7th of December, you'll be in for a treat when a live performance with Nicole on the vocal helm will take place, destined to create a huge response at Impulz and beyond!
