DJ Tiesto played infront of a packed crowd at Koolhaus in Toronto last night, but how did it go ? Can the world's number one DJ as voted by DJ Magazine be top dog every night ? Not according to some last night. Read on for more...
Submitted By Andy/TTA
Since Tiesto last played a nightclub in toronto, it has been a year and a few months. Since that time, his popularity has soared and was voted #1 deejay in the world. So Tiesto played Toronto's own Koolhaus on Sat.December 14/2002.
First of all, Luke Fair did a banging warm up set for 4 hrs then Tiesto walked on and the capacity crowd roared. He started with King Unique's Sugarhigh then went to Iio - At The End (Scumfrog Mix) and played mostly banging tunes for the 3hrs 20min set. About 80mins into the set, he dropped Urban Train and the crowd roared again and then 40 minutes after that, he dropped Flaming June. Ended with the prophet.
Tiesto may have become the world's best deejay but his performance in toronto has horrible, his transistions were off, his mixing was weak at best and his choice of tunes was even worse. He would play some tune and try to transistion into another and that was weak at best. He may think that playing weak vocal tunes also helps but it does not. He kept playing weak vocal tune after weak vocal tune, c'mon tijs we know you can do better.
Tiesto may have kept some people happy in the Koolhaus but not me and in my personal opinion, he has lost his ability to mix decently and pick tunes decently. Overall Rating 4/10, Tiesto can do better and he knows it.
Sadly, even the biggest fans can leave a night disappointed, and I hope that when Tiesto returns to Canada in 2003, that he will please the guys who were disappointed last night.
Remember that all reviews are the opinions of the people who actually went and not of the entire crowd, No doubt some people will have enjoyed it, but sadly some did not.
Update Big thanks to Alec for sending me another report :)
I am still in awe at the skill of saturday's Tiesto concert at the Koolhaus in toronto, CA. Being from the states I don't get to see good acts, unless I go New York. THe only very good party I've been to that I could compare was Sasha and Digweed at Water St. in Rochester, where I go to school at U of Roch...
Personally I don't want to play devils ad but honestly Luke Fair was fairly weak. He couldn't do much for the crowd, but what do you expect hes opening for the #1 dj (for thedjlist.com). Tiesto was solid as always, spun some good stuff, most of which you told about. My favorite part was where everyone went nuts for Flaming June, nice little mix he had going, a little deeper then the ones I'd heard before, only a pity he didn't spin out the whole track. His only flaw was playing die another day by madonna, fortunately for him, he got pardoned, simply because he has an energetic attitude and good sense of the crowd.
My real surprise was after he walked off the stage at 6 or so, another DJ came on and I was disapointed because Tiesto was gone, but once this guy started spinning (I think his name was dj puf or something) he tore the floor up. He dropped some rumbling phat bass beats. I could very much feel the hard house hitting for this guy, crazy build up. Well thats the report from Rochester, NY.
