As one of the first countries to see in the new year, Australian's usually like to do it in style, and this year was no exception as 2 Australian tranceaddicts went to join in for "Welcome 2003" at Melbourne Park!

Thousands of party-goers had come for one main reason, to have a good time while welcoming in the new year. With international Dj’s playing such as nick sentience, cj bolland, space dj’s, sister bliss to name a few. Having moved around the six venues, to get a feel for the environment, the time just flew by.

Nick Sentience was playing in the bass station room, which was in a good location near everything. This room was very full, it wasn’t that large however. Sentience's set was fantastic, he kept the energy and vibe up throughout. He dropped tracks such as destination. His timing was spot on and his mixing was also flawless. This guy has a lot of talent and on this night it was displayed.

As it drew near to 12pm I moved into the main arena where Timo Maas was playing. He also had the set times of 11pm to 1am. The countdown to 2003 was on three large screens and couldn’t be missed. As it struck twelve the sounds of azzido da bass - Doom's night (Timo maas remix) was pumping through the speakers. Timo seemed to be enjoying the crowd and the moment. He dropped tracks like Simon- free at last, no doubt and placebo. I didn’t enjoy his set that much, his track selection was all over the place. However, Timo was really friendly and he came down during his set to sign a cd, he also did hang around after his set to have a chat with the fans.

CJ Bolland's live set was up next this was very energetic and absolutely amazing. The set captured the essence of the evening, the crowd was up for it, just as much as he was. The energy in the room was remarkable, everybody was having a great time. Melbourne is known for liking techno and the crowd represented this, the main room was full of people, not only were they on the dance floor but they were also sitting on the chairs surrounding it. Bolland dropped such tracks as space opera, manta and ended with the truely amazing performance of the prophet. Having not seen CJ Bolland live before and not knowing what to expect probably played in my favour. As I had no expectations of what they would be like. I can honestly say that the crowd loved every minute of them and so did I. They were the best international act to perform at this party. The only downfall to this performance was that the set only went for one hour, there was a sense of wanting more.

Directly following this explosive live performance of CJ Bolland was Sister Bliss. I must admit this was one of the major reasons why I decided to attend this event. She definitely had a hard act to follow, playing directly after CJ Bolland and not many thought she would be able to pull it off, but she did. She came out with all guns blazing and spun progressive and house music. Some people left the main arena but the faithful stayed and they were not disappointed. It took a while for her to build-up and once she did it was very impressive. The highlight for me was when she spun Faithless- Crazy English Summer (Hiver and Hammer Remix). We all waited patiently to see if she would spin anything by faithless and this was the one I was hoping for. The crowd erupted when they heard the familiar vocals of Zoë Johnston. Sister Bliss was having a great time behind the decks, she was singing they words to this track and dancing. She even acknowledged the sign in the crowd that said “tune”. Her finale was simply beautiful she spun planet funk- chase the sun and the dance floor just instantly filled up again.

Many Thanks to InAcoma & Philby for sharing the review of the night :)
