What did DJ Fire, James Holden, DJ Ton T.B. (half of Three Drives), Push and the Flash Brothers think of 2002? What were they doing on NYE?? How will 2003 be for them? Find out here...
What was the highlight of 2002 for you?
DJ Fire: My highlight of the year (as a DJ) was playing in Norway on a boat-party during the yearly Sommerparade in Oslo. Superb! And as a producer my breakthrough as DJ Fire. Been in tracklists of practically every major trance-DJ!
James Holden: I think playing on a beach in Greece with Gwill Morris this summer though generally the places I've played & people I've met have been fantastic this year - too many to mention, though Australia last month was great fun also.
DJ Ton T.B. (half of Three Drives): Signing at Black Hole recordings for DJ Ton T.B. solo project
M.I.K.E. (aka Push): Remixing artists like Sinéad O´Connor & Moby.
The Flash Brothers: Our reputation got quite well known worldwide, with our releases and remixes, etc… The massive DJ support around the world such as top DJ’s, and playing our live show around the world.
What was the most remarkable in 2002?
DJ Fire: The most remarkable in 2002 was the fact that underground trance (progressive) didn't have the expected success that everybody expected (especially press in the UK had hyped progressive enormously). The anthemic trance is back!
James Holden: How stupid the Americans can be..
DJ Ton T.B.: No idea, there were many…
M.I.K.E.: That the club scene is in recession all over the world.
The Flash Brothers: Our tracks have been featured on more then 10 CD compilations this year, including some of the best known DJ’s and series…
What did you do on NYE?
DJ Fire: I attended 2 parties on NYE, since my booking-option for a gig in Ireland got cancelled. First a goa-trance party in Antwerp, then the NY-party in one of Belgium's leading clubs: Cherrymoon.
James Holden: Went out with people I like.
DJ Ton T.B.: Playing at 2 parties in Holland.
M.I.K.E.: Playing in Canada, Push Live.
The Flash Brothers: We played our live show in the biggest party in Stockholm, Sweden, with Lucien Foort.
What are your expectations for 2003?
DJ Fire: I expect 2003 to be a difficult year for the music business in general. Only the strong and big companies/organisations will survive. All the other will go down in the crisis which is going on at the moment. I hope Lightning (the company I work for) will have lots of success and that my productions will score big all over the world. Of course I also hope for an international breakthrough as DJ.
James Holden: The renaissance.
DJ Ton T.B.: A lot of new productions and many gigs all over the world.
M.I.K.E.: No expectations, that’s the best.
The Flash Brothers: That we keep on releasing our tracks, and that we expand our live gigs worldwide.
Anything planned for 2003?
DJ Fire: I'm planning to organise some parties myself in 2003 and I've already got some remix-requests and new tracks coming up. So all those fans can expect a lot of new stuff coming up in the next few months!
James Holden: I’m starting my own label for leftfield dance music, after everything negative I've seen in the music industry I want to start something that does everything right for the right reasons. Also my single with Julie Thompson, ´Nothing` coming out in February/march, on Loaded.
DJ Ton T.B.: Finishing the Three Drives album, and making a mix-album series
M.I.K.E.: Too much to mention, but a new Push album is on the way…
The Flash Brothers: New remixes for UK labels, as well as playing in the UK a first time, possibly in march.
So you can see. People were having mixed thoughts about 2002. The clubscene is deteriorating according to M.I.K.E., progressive trance didn't have its peeked, as expected by the press...and new talent from Isreal emerged.
2003 however, looks to be promising, with new albums from M.I.K.E. and Three Drives. New productions by DJ Fire, James Holden, and of course The Flash Brothers. But I'm sure they all have some stuff up their sleeve to surprise us all...
More to come soon...
