Part 1 of an article where the i:Vibes crew will try & predict what 2003 holds, how close will we be ? Well we'll have to wait until the end of the year for that!
4 Questions will be answered by various members of i:Vibes crew, predicting where 2003 will take everyone.
The questions are
1- What styles will 2003 Embrace 2- Who will step upto the next level and become a worldwide hero 3- Who should we watch out for in 2003 as new artists or dj's go 4- What tunes or projects would you like to see this year
First up to Answer is Kevin C i:Vibes head editor....
1- 2003, will be the sound of uplifting trance, without a doubt the sound of 99-00 I feel it!
2- Worldwide hero... that's a hard one... me?? =D ... or perhaps Hybrid
3- MMMMMMMM, I have a feeling someone like Nu Nrg will dominate the world and take over everyone. =) More realistically, Jon O'Bir
4- More from Nat Monday....
Next up, Another Head Editor, trigaX
1- I think all styles will have their par this year. We're gonna go back to the most important thing of all, the music... no more big things like 1999/2001, but new stuff, new concepts, all based around the music.
2- James Zabiela, Matt Hardwick are my predictions...
3- Same as 2, I think James Zabiela will get a lot of attention, he's new to the scene, and already made quite an impact. As producers go, I think some progressive producers will get a more important role in the scene: eg Pole Folder, The Flash Brothers, and old veterans like Bedrock, Way Out West, Hybrid, .... will just confirm their importance for the music. Without them, music wouldn't be what it is today...
4- No more uplifting cheese, more innovation, more depth in music. Music for the intelligent people, not sing-a-long stuff like Lethal Industry...
Thirdly, We ask editor Mathew the same questions
1- drum&bass will be abit more recognised and i think house will kinda have another birth ...
2- ferry, not a big fan of him, but he's taken it to the japanese, so why not the world? :)
3- john o'bir, we can see he is gonna be big already, and i fancy armin as best dj this year...
4- katana workin with some more ppl, his sound has a universal appeal i think :D
Next to Step upto the questions chair, Resident Party goer DJ Mikey Mike...
1- I think 2003 will see a lot more Hard Trance, and hopefully more Uplifting Trance as well. 2002 lacked good Uplifting/Anthemic Trance, and i think we will see a lot more of it this year.
2- If it`s at all possible to become any higher than he already is, Paul van Dyk will be huge next year. With the early 2003 release of the PvD Global DVD 2003 with a bonus CD of Pauls finest work over the years, and as well as the second edition to the Vorsprung Dyk Technik series coming soon to a shop near you, and yet even more vandit goodies for us all with Vandit Sessions 2 the album coming soon, things are only going to get bigger and better for Paul van Dyk this year.
3- As far as DJ's go, definitely watch out for Jon O' Bir. By recently establishing a residency at Godskitchen, 2003 it can only mean big things for this guy.
4- A Dumonde Remix of Gouryella - Ligaya would be nice :)
Finally for this first Installment is myself, or Ian as I'm sometimes Known!
1- 2003 is going to be a very interesting year, I think we will see more Tek-Trance from Marco V and Katana amongst others as well as the very hard working Oliver Klitzing, who has brought many amazing projects already, I can see him taking over even more :)
2- as for the normal 'trance', I can see it being a very successful year for the Helstrips, with projects like the Thrillseekers, Rapid Eye etc being some of the hottest around, stepping upto another level if that is at all possible. As far as harder trance goes, I would like to see it get harder again, 2002 seemed to turn soft as far as some projects went, but I think that Kai Tracid will be the top artist in 2003 for this particular genre with Technoboy & Derb once again leading the way in Hardstyle.
I am very interested to see how the Big players like Ferry & Armin will go though, especially with the new Ferry album on the Horizon, plus more work from the godly Rank 1 :)
3- His name has been said more than once, but I can only stress once again that Jon O'Bir is going to be one of the best DJs this year, he brings amazing amateur sounds into his productions, not just the usual suspects, and I expect to see him as a headliner for years to come!
Also I think that Tomcraft will have a big year, there currently seems to be a great demand for his funkier edged sounds, and for DJs I think that Armin will be number 1 this year, and that Marco V should again rise, possibly into the top 20 or even 10 if he has a good year.
For up & coming talent, watch out for Robert Nickson, Haak, Elude, Beat Project and i:Vibes Crew Member Finne's progressive sounds to hopefully earn him a record deal, the future looks very bright indeed!
4- I have heard rumours of a project between Steve Helstrip & Ferry Corsten and to me this would be a dream combination, also I want to see more work from Gabriel & Dresden, Tomcraft and Katana!
Concluding Part One, part two will hopefully follow soon :)
