Tsunami are famous for giving us blinding Trance, and as our first offering in 2003, bring us a track by Roland Van Gelderen, aka Kid Vicious! Will this be tearing down walls ? find out here!
As I begin this review, I'm told that this was played 4 times last weekend at Gatecrasher, so it must have something going for it!
A1 - Proceed (Original Mix)
At over 9 minutes long, we have to hope that it has something to keep us interested for that amount of time, and after just 1 listen I can say that it does have that. It has a distinct Dutch sound to it, and with the bass & beats at the beginning, I could easily be thinking Ferry had made this. There is a gentle melody after about a minute, building us up slowly, but in a great way, for a storming breakdown & main part, which is after 3 minutes, and like another long tune that comes to mind, Cloudwalking, has not been a boring intro at all. The beats disappear, and a deep dark sound comes upon us, slowly turning into a stringy long sound, very much like the tunes of 1999 which were so popular, but bang upto date in the sounds used. The melody from before comes back over the top and we're nearly ready for takeoff, The breakdown begins, and whilst simple, does the effective job or progressing the tune back into beat mode.
At the 6 minute mark, we are again treated to a change, and that is something that Roland has done a great job of, building the song up, and using 2 or 3 sections to make the tune complete, not just one sound all the way through, and This is so much liked, I have made it Tune of the Week, and rate it as 10/10, an early contender for one of the best tunes this year!
B1 - Kid Vicious Obsessive Remake
Starting off once again on a simplistic Beat, bassline and groovy percussion, You could be forgiven for wondering what would be different, but we are soon shown why, as at the 1 minute mark, a Piano comes in, almost sounding like ones that were used in the early 1990s rave Music! Already I'm liking this version as well, as the melody continues to progress. A really funky synth has been used, not funky like Loneliness, but in a sparkly, jumpy, alive kind of sense. Already we are past 3:30 mark and it seems not like a minute has gone. I find this remake also amazing, as it is both original and captivating, and Definitely worthy of being on the Tsunami Label!
Later on, the Piano comes back, and it again breaks down in a simple way but by saying it's simple does not mean it's bad at all, into the beats again, and I can personally see why it's getting such good reviews from the people on the dancefloors, Once again I have to give this a high mark, 9/10 in this case, and I'd make sure that you get your copy soon, highly recommended!
