At the moment, a lot of emphasis is on re-pressing vinyls, but sometimes that's just not enough, how about some brand new remixes of the classics to bring them bang upto date ? Well that's what Tidy Have brought us here, and on an amazing Blue Vinyl too !!
A1 - Travel - Bulgarian (Paul Maddox Mix)
A Tune what was first brought to our attentions in the late 90s, which recieved a remix from some of the big boys of the time, Signum, How will Paul Maddox bring it upto Date ?
Well first off we hear the ever familiar vocal, something which adds to this tune so much, and Is probably more used in this remix than any other mix I've heard upto date. Then we get a funky percussion which is really nice, and a typical 4/4 beat to accompany it into the first Breakdown. This is a typical breakdown with a normal drum roll, but it brings the bass into play straight after, and thus serves a purpose. This is not a typical Hard House track either, it is extremely trancey, no signs of a Hoover anywhere!
3 minutes in and it really comes into its own, beautiful soft strings, and a pulsating synth comes over the top with the awesome melody, and the vocal of course is in there too, but being more of a voice sample than a full on vocal, doesn't really get noticed too much, it adds to the song rather than distracting at this point. Another nice breakdown and we're into the main pumping bit, which fires at us harder than before, especially with the catchy tune what made it so popular the first time. This song has a very funky edge to it, but as I said when I reviewed Resonate 2 last week, I kept playing this, when it finishes, just listen to it all over again.
A lot of Hard House seems to be incorporating more trancier elements, and if it's the quality of this, I'm not bothered at all, It's not maybe for the progressive fan, but for fans of this tune old and the new ones it will make with people hearing for the first time, I would highly recommend it, and If I was allowed, would have it as tune of the week :) 10/10
B1 Handbaggers - U Found Out (Simon Parkes Mix)
For those of you who are wondering who Simon Parkes is, it would be good for you to know that he helped the legendary Tony de Vit (RIP) Engineer and Produce his classic hits, so there is definitely some pedigree involved!
'U Found Out' Begins with a weird bassline, and a kick which sounds quiet at first, but quickly bursts into an almighty loud sound, which is incorporated with a lots more sounds over the top, quickly establishing the beats bass melody & we're not even a minute into the song yet. Also like the previous record, there is a vocal with this one, which is possibly a bit more noticeable in this case. The tune is fast and pumping, really pounding on the ears with a delight of different sounds and chords changes in the bass to keep you interested. There isn't a lot more to say for a start until nearly 4 minutes into the track, when it fades out and comes at you all over again, starting with the melody then adding the bass & vocal over, 'You must have heard it, you found out' I think it says, it's not a vocal by Jan Johnston in the case of it's not sung as much as spoken almost.
After this there's not an awful lot to say, nothing new comes into the song, and whilst being a very good song, I don't think it's quite as good as the remix of 'Bulgarian' so I'd rate it as 7/10
