New i:Vibes Crew Member Az visited Godskitchen last Friday, for a delight of Jon O'Bir, Ferry Corsten & Armin Van Buuren, Find out what went down here!
The Line Up Jon O'Bir : 9:30 - 00:00 Armin Van Buuren : 00:00 - 02:00 Armin b2b Ferry : 02:00 - 04:00 Ferry Corsten : 04:00 - 06:00
Due my terrible map reading skills, and numerous people in Birmingham giving us wrong directions, I only caught the last 10 minutes of Jon O'Birs set. I was assured by everyone that Jon had yet again played an absolute blinder, building up to Armins set with real style, throwing in more than the fair share of unsigned tunes (but top quality) that has become his trademark.
After a little problem with Armins headphones, which resulted in him using Jons, things got underway with a nice progressive start, the 93 returning mix of Holden and Thompson - Nothing, sounding almost epic on the code sound system, and the atmosphere was electric, the club packed full, and the night was really starting to move!. A mass sing a long of the Hiver and Hammer mix of Armins - Yet Another Day signalled what was to come!
The back to back started fairly slowly, the Hybrid mix of Conjure one - Tears from the moon set the scene, and the set built up from there, Highlights including Push - Strange World, and Underworld - Born Slippy (which seems to be a fairly popular tune to be played lately).
The celebrity these two DJ's have achieved was all too evident, the club was packed, and no space too move around the DJ booth for people wanting Vinyls signed and photo's etc.... I think Armin was taken by surprise when he was mobbed at the end of the back to back
Ferry took things up a notch, with a good mix of new and old tunes, State one - Forever and a Day (Dub) was a bit of a teaser for almost everyone in the crowd, positive they'd heard it before somewhere (It's recently been used in a BBC ad campaign) , and the soon to be classic Above and Beyond - Far From in Love!
The set spiralled from there, Ferry dropping tune after tune keeping the crowd begging for more, playing some extended versions of tracks from his new album, that are sure to be massive in the future. As an encore Ferry played Kid Vicious - Proceed, a tune thats fast becoming a club favourite, and the perfect way to finish the night, just a shame about the snow!
lasers More Lasers! More Lasers!! Armin on the Decks Az & Armin - Worse for wear!
Many thanks to Az for the Review!
