Once again, Az visited Gods for their Friday night venture @ Code in Birmingham. Find out if he had another messy night here! Big thanks to Az & Mark @GK
The Line up Was Jon O'Bir (warm up set) 9:30 - 11:00 John '00' Fleming 11:00 - 01:30 Jon O'Bir (Uplifting set) 01:30 - 03:00 Judge Jules 03:00 - 04:30
With Jon O'Bir warming up, you know you're in for a treat, and as usual Jon didn't disappoint. With some really nice vocal tracks, he built the set really well, playing the Hybrid mix of Conjure one - Tears from the Moon, a few really nice prog trance tracks, and finishing on Holden and Thompson - Nothing (93 Returning mix).
I:Vibes favourite John '00' Fleming was next, and I wasn't really sure what to expect, as his sets were completely different both times I've seen him previously. This set was by far the best of the 3. John started out with some really nice progressive tracks, unfortuneately I didn't recognise any of them!, I'd love to get hold of his record bag, some of the vocal tracks he played were simply awesome! It was 45 minutes into his set until I actually recognised a track, and what a track, Darren Tate Vs Mike Koglin - Now is the Time really got the crowd going, and the excellent code lasers were in full effect. It was a fair while until me or Jon O'Bir recognised any tunes, then the big three came out, Faithless - God is a DJ (Astral Projection mix), Three Drives - Sunset in Ibiza and Oxygen - Am I on your mind (Lustral mix).
For a few of my friends, this was the first time they'd been to a proper club, and they were really enjoying it, John '00' Fleming was taking us on a journey, and his set was really beginning to peak towards the end. AR52 - 'Hibernation' was played towards the end, it's forthcoming on J00F, and it truly is a masterpiece, and John followed up with the PvD mix of Thrillseekers - Synaesthesia as his last track, and Godskitchen went mad! I didn't think that this night would be able to top last weeks offering of Armin and Ferry, but as soon as Jon O'Birs uplifting set got under way, and the way the crowd were reacting, it was hard to deny that this week was special. Playing tune after tune of new material from unknown artists, Jon was really lifting the crowd, and Hydra - Affinity was very well recieved, but Sundawner - Flakes (Cosmicmans new tune) was absolutely awesome! Watch out for this one, as it's going to be really big. One of the main reasons I went to this night was to give Jon O'Bir a CD of two friends of mine's new tracks, and after Fire + Ice - Lost Emotions, Jon played the guys new remix of Jose Amnesia - The Eternal. The crowd went wild, and with the lasers in full effect, George (one half of Aspiration) was in shock, that their tune was getting such a good reaction. Jon followed up with 5th Dimension - Rain of Emotion (Robert Nickson remix), a tune he helped put into the spotlight, and should be getting a release soon!
Judge Jules came on at about 3am, half an hour late due to problems leaving Slinky earlier in the evening. He started off fairly hard, but moved to the more uplifting trance, System F - Solstice, and the new remix of Underworld - Born Slippy were two tunes of note. Jules was working the crowd really well, and despite the criticism he recieves, he knows how to play a finishing set, and most thought it was over by Plummet - Damaged (Antillas remix). But no Judge Jules set is complete without DJ Elite - that fuct camera, and it really was a great end to the best night out I've had at code!.
Unfortunately due to some technical problems with the digital camera, there are no photo's or video this time.
