James Holden's latest offering is yet again an outstanding one. Getting support from all the top jocks, Nothing looks to be something amazing...
This latest James Holden release is in cooperation with Julie Thompson, who delivers the vocals for Nothing. This 2x12" promo is set for a general release in a few months on Loaded. James left Silver Planet for reasons unknown. Will it live up to the normal standard like Horizons? Solstice?
The Original is something completely different then we are used to from James Holden. It's much more relaxed, it has a 'sit back and relax' feel to it. A xylophone has been magically used in this song to support the main melody, and the outstanding vocals from Julie Thompson make this a unique sounding song.
On the flipside we find the 93 Returning Mix, and this is the mix you really want / need. Progressive trance like Sasha & Digweed. Starts of below the surface, and slowly builds and builds till it's time to take a peek and blow up in your face. The vocals have been altered, and sound more eery, spooky then in the original, but this only emphasis the entire sound of the track, and it fits like a gem. No wonder why Sasha has been dropping this track in his sets! This would take home the crown in the Miss World election for progressive trance...
On to the second 12" Here we find the Silver City Remix and the Silver City Dub If you like your music funky, then this is the remix for you. This remix totally changes the sound, and makes it more groovy, funky then the Original & 93 Returning Mix. Great to drop in the beginning of a house set, since this song is easy on the ear, yet sophisticated.
The Instrumental Dub is just like you would expect. A dub from the original.
But what isn't mentionned on the 2x12" is a 3-4 minutes ambient remix after the Instrumental Dub. A bit like James Holden vs Ben Pound - Kaern Turned. Great to relax to.
Nothing has gotten plays from all the top DJ's, Sasha, Armin, ... and therefore it has been waited for, for months. But the wait isn't over, the general release is set in a few months, but the promos are widely spread, so you should be able to get one. And you don't want to miss this 2x12" in your record collection!
