The original release on ITWT created a wide reception when it came out, and now, we see a bunch of remixes coming out on UK label Lost Language, soon after their release of Solar Stone's Solarcoaster.
Coming up on March 31st is the massive release of Midway's "Monkey Forest" the dutch production which has been on the playlists since last year.
1. Cultivate Remix 2. Original Mix 3. Greg Murray Remix 4. Vincent & Quentin Mix
First up are the Cultivate boys with a teched up, darker remix, which is going to remind some of you some of Hooj's old, more melodic progressive material as it combines some studded tech bassline with the Monkey Forest melody, making this a twisted melodic number. A strong mix in it's own right and I do feel that this is one of the stronger mixes out of the bunch. It is definitely different from the sound encompassed in the following original mix, but it is one which stands out with a distinctive sound bringing back old memories and combinging it with a new sound.
Back to the Original Mix, I won't need to give much introduction to this as many of you have heard this already on the original release b/w Travelling. The original mix has pretty much defined the synth sound which has made Midway the name he is today. The rising synth has a sense of creating a definitive atmosphere in a club and this has been reflected by the strong support from DJ's Tiesto, Armin van Buuren and Paul van Dyk, and to me, this was one of the tracks which signifies the trance sound of 2002.
Top guy Greg Murray has been pushing up track after track in recent months and his remix of this track is no exception to his qualities and he shows that his talents at remixing continue after his remix of Solar Stone's "Solarcoaster" amongst others. This remix, in my opinion sets the tone for the trance sound of 2003 with a more energetic and melodic affair, complete with percussions, synths and dynamic melodic driven beats. Not for those seeking bass heavy material as this floats across like a wave and honestly, the best remix out of all which have come forward.
Going to the finale, we see Vincent & Quentin aka Plastic Angel in a Marco V style track which puts yet another perspective on this original production. This will definitely appeal to many, but I have to say it is definitely not my style and you barely recognize the Monkey Forest within, with the exception for the melody samples which are dotted throughout. Uptempo, driven and bass rich, this will suit Marco V, Armin van Buuren fans and such, but for those looking for the melody and euphoria which the original track was portraying, this won't be for you.
Overall, you have the likes of tech-trance from Cultivate and Vincent & Quentin, the more classic original mix and then you have the 2003 sound from Greg Murray. What comes here is a simple yet effective package with something for all.
With a released on March 31st on double vinyl:
