© Google2Well, i:Vibes is a website, and every website in the world is in google! In fact google plays an important role in almost 100% of the webs presence. As google is the most popular search engine in the world, we thought we would bring you some news about the monster itself! Read on...

Websites Are Invited to The Google Dance:
The Google Dance has begun. February came and went with an expected update to the Google™ database not materializing. People have given false alerts that a dance is underway, and there have also been people who have thought the regular Google Dance had already happened and their site had not receive the expected update. For many online marketers the Google update is awaited eagerly, particularly to see if one's pet pages have received an update to the all important PageRank.

In Webmaster World, a forum member called GoogleGuy, who is a respected member of the Google Inc., team makes comments and announcements. Remarks on March 6, 2003 gives us an indication that indeed the monthly update that occurs around the end of a month is on its way in the next 48 hours. Many online marketers are letting out a sigh of relief that at last the update expected at the end of February is at last happening.

Apart from the Webmaster World Forum where such a message can be dropped, there are indicators that can be used to alert you as to when the Google™ update is already happening. According to the Search Engine Dictionary, the Google Dance is:

Once a month Google updates its entire index of web sites. That is called the Google Dance and can last for a couple of days – usually it’s from about the 20th to the 28th of every month. -- [Search Engine Dictionary definition of "Google Dance"]

Why is further explained in the Web Rank Info site that has a tool to enable people to detect when the dance is actually on:

Corresponds to the period of the month at which Google updates the values of PageRank of the pages indexed in its base. This one generally starts at the end of the month and lasts one week. During this time, the ranking of a Web page in the results of a search goes up or down (you understand why it is called a dance). It is the same for its visible PageRank in Google Toolbar. According to the geographical area of the Net surfer, one of the thousands of servers of Google will give the results to the search, which will differ according to whether this server is updated or not.

Another tool explains the Google Dance in a slightly fuller manner:
Now if you've been a keen Google fan you'll know that they have 3 main www servers online, which are as follows:
www.google.com - The main address, the true homepage of Google Inc.
www2.google.com - Thought to be a test server.
www3.google.com - Thought to be a test server.

Whilst nobody outside of "Google" truly seems to know the purpose of the www2 & www3 servers, many people have come to the assumption that they are test servers. During the update, which takes several days, the 3 Google servers display different results. Whilst the results vary from server to server, they are said to be "dancing", hence the name "Google Dance".

The www2 & www3 servers are the ones most closely observed during the dance, however I have recently found the addresses to all 8 of the Google Datacenters!! I believe that watching this will provide for a slight enhancement in the detection of the "Google Dance"

The now well documented lawsuit against Google Inc., by Search King primarily centered on Search King receiving a down grade in Page Rank ... Google Sued Click Here ... It is during the time of the Google Dance that Page Ranks are re-calculated. Should web pages receive a lower Page Rank, those pages do not appear in as favorable a location in search results pages as when web pages have a higher Page Rank. Many online marketers eagerly wait to see what their new page rank is, particularly if it has been a long-haul in getting a website to be favorably optimized -- sometimes over a period of 12 to 15 months.

Other people are eagerly awaiting this monthly update for other reasons. News sites that have been created during the period between the last Google update and this one, while being listed in the Google™ database, often experience days and times when they appear and disappear from the database. It is in the regular monthly updates that this wafting in and out of currency in the database disappears. Many news sites also receive their first Page Rank during an update. Prior to this their web pages display a grey bar which signals that they have not bee ranked as yet.

Many in the weblog (blog) community see the Google Dance as a necessary thing, but do not eagerly await its arrival. Weblogs are updated on a daily basis and if a weblog has been past one of these Google Dance's then, any others is an update but it does not mean as much. However, Google is the most watched search engine at this time, and it is only natural than anything that Google does, there are watchers eagerly waiting to determine exactly what is going on. Google Inc., are not seen as being good communicators and so much speculation always occurs by fans eagerly watching every move of the search giant.

Whatever the position you may be in, the Google Dance, according to GoogleGuy is upon us, and while you are reading this, the dance is happening or already over. There will be some winners and there are also some losers every time. We will hear about it over the next week.
