© www.time-warp.deTime Warp 2003 was another Milestone in electronic music - on the 5th of april 2003, Mannheim was shaken by the enormous basslines of the live sets from over 35 artists...

Like last year, i:vibes is very proud to present the Review of one of the most "state - of - the - art" techno parties in germany.
With over 23 national and international Artists, Time warp is one of the biggest indoor techno events in germany. But not only the line- up was impressive; the sound and light installations have been amazing! Over 150.000 Watts Music Power, 300.000 Watts Light, 68.000 meters of cables, 80 different light- effects and an amazing chill- out zone which proved itself the last year as well.

Like in the last years thousands of dance - willing techno and trance enthusiasts over the world started their pilgrim tout to their "Mekka" in germany. As every year, hours before the doors were opened hundreds of people attended in front of the Maimarkt Halls in Mannheim, hoping to enjoy all the fun from the first minute till the last second.

And no one should be disappointed... except if you weren't able to be there!

Upon entry, a amile popped up on everybodys face, loving the atmosphere and the decent sound of basslines coming from inside the Halls. What a feeling. Many people must have spent multiple hours to dress up, with all their funky haircuts, some with very attractive clothes (see below), you couldn't walk inside, we had to run.

And there it was - the same atmospohere as every time you are attending the time- warp. biiiiig loudspeakers, run at half their power, making you expect of what to come later. A very nice light ambience in Floor one with so called "Gap Walls", that means 40 Monitors are divided into 8 Caleidoscopes with an amazing fractal and video-show! It was so amazing to see all this when only a few people were there at first cause of the security procedure at the entrance. But nearly one hour later, all the 5 floors have been crowded with people.

Lets move on, let the impressions of the great decoration and Soundinstallation behind us and move on what exactly happened on the five floors. Unfortunately we couldn't be on all floors at the same time, we wish we could have been! It was unbelievable what powerful techno all the artists were playing...

Floor One

We thought we would see DJ Erg at first, but instead us was given the chance to see "Leila Abu-Er-Rub". She was doing a great set full of house and light techno, nice on the ears and very danceable. It was her first performance on the Time-Warp, but one can be sure that we will hear more from this gifted Lady.

The next Highlight we attended on floor one was "Vanguard". Known by their Smash- Hit "Flash", a Queen cover, we have really been curious about that Duo. They did a very good job. They played some Queen covers with very powerful rhythms. Noone could stand still at their performance. What an ambience they created. Everybody was screaming and dancing, as it was their last day.

Dave Clarke and Adam Beyer, which my friend Jasminko R attended must have been amazing as well. Hard beats and screaming sounds all over the place! What a fun!

But the Real thing of the Night was Chris Liebing. He even was better trhan the "Grand Master Vaeth" which was playing the same time on floor 2. He was spinning the most powerful tunes I have ever heard, basslines faster and faster, and when u heard Sven Vaeth's basslines in the background, Liebing was playing his music louder and louder, it seemed to be like a battle on 2 different floors, in our opinion, Liebing won. :-)

Floor Two

On this floor we first have attended Tok Tok vs. Soffy O *live*, a little too soft for techno enthusiasts, but easy on the ears and melodic. Soffy O has a great voice which fits exactly to the electronic sound which was live performed by Tok Tok (see pictures below).

After that Umek was spinning his decks, and as we know Umek, he has a lot to give. And a lot to take, cause he took all our breath. We have been dancing all during his very impressive set which was, in our opinion the 2nd best one after Chris Liebing.

Sven Väth was the last one to spin his decks on floor 2 with a giant set of over 8 hours. It is always amazing to see him perform live and to get all the attraction of the crowd. He was scratching, spinning on 3 decks making the crowd co totally crazy. This man really does fulfil a techno- lovers dreams.

Floor three

On this floor we only had the time to see DJ Koze and Ricardo Villalobos. They have both given their best, not only with standard techno, but with experimental sounds and new sub-genres of Techno which was very interesting to listen.

Floor four

Cause Leila Abu-er-Rub was playing on floor one, only Dirk Schneider, Timo Maas, Paul van Dyk and Mark Spoon were giving Trance enthusiasts what they needed. Some really big uplifting tunes were played, but the majority of the tunes were progressive. The Trance floor in the Club "Broadway" is the best Place to listen to trance because of the great sound and light system that club provides. It is a shame that apart from the Time Warp this Club has not the numbers of visitors during the normal week-end.

Floor five

We only have been able to see M.A.N.D.Y. on this floor, which are resident of the legendary Monza- Club. Their concept, which is significant for a whole generation of DJ's and Producers, who have followed the music of the 90's very intensively. Now they are doing their conclusions out of it. Tech-90's we decided to call their style which really is worth a listen!

Ambient floor

The ambient floor which impressed us last year for the first time, has been the eye-catcher of this years' Time warp as well. You believe you are sitting in a Spacecraft like the USS Enterprise, watching the stars go by at both sides and coming straight to you in front! Nice ambient souds are surrounding the room making you believe you are travelling to another world.

All in All / Overview

We have never been disappointed about the Time Warp and we will never be. It is not only a techno Party, not only a big Event - It is the one and only place to be for Techno enthusiasts. As we stated last year - an indoor event cannot be better than this - has to be deleted from last years Review and to be placed here. The Time- Warp Crew has done it again - broken their own record - the "Time- Warps" are better and better each year - and each single time you are attending one you believe it is the best party you have ever been to.

Big Congrats to the Time Warp Crew for one of the best Techno Parties of the year - for over 12 times now. You are writing History.
