© copyright @ i:Vibesi:Vibes catches up with one of the hottest names in the trance scene.

i:Vibes: Hello, we appreciate you taking some time out to talk to us. A lot of people out there don't know too much about you, so why not tell us a bit about yourself, your background, music influences and such?
Ronski Speed: Yeah, what to say, I'm 28 and live here in a wonderful part of Eastern Germany near the Polish and Czech borders.
I love music, every kind of music, as long as it's nice and groovin'.
My biggest influences were the sound of the 80's like New Order, Depeche Mode or the Pet Shop Boys, also Trance producers like Chicane, BT, Ferry Corsten and Paul van Dyk.
I like the current sound of the Trance nation out there. People like Tiesto, Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren, Ralphie B and Mirco de Govia are giving new impulses to the masses at the moment.

i:Vibes: How did you get into producing?
Ronski Speed: In 1996 Kyau vs Albert released their first single 'Let Me In'. I noticed that both are from the same area I live in. I was DJing there for some years. I came in contact with them through Rough Mullar (aka Sonorous) who is a good friend
of mine.
At this time we started to produce our first tracks in the studio of Kyau vs Albert. When Euphonic was founded in 1997 we had the chance to release our first material. In the following time Rough and me started to build up our own studio. The first projects Sonorous and Barefoot Brains got plays by big name deejays. For a long time I only wanted to produce and write in the background, because I have a good job in the computer industry. Music is only my hobby. I produced and composed together with Rough Mullar the Sonorous singles 'Second Sun' and 'Protonic'. I produced many tracks with Mirco de Govia, E.G. 'Epic Monolith', 'Things That Matter' and all his remixes since 2001.

Two years ago label boss Ralph Kyau forced me to make an own project on Euphonic. In summer 2001 I had the idea for 'I'm Alone'. Because of the sweet vocals I decided to call the project Sun Decade. In the UK it was released as Ronski Speed presents Sun Decade. A two day producing version of that track was hammered by Paul van Dyk in the beginning of 2002. This version was known as Ronski Speed mix later and it was getting huge. More remixes followed under this specific Ronski Speed name just to put it into the years of the Trance lovers (latest: Aly & Fila 'Eye of Horus' and Goldenscan 'Sunrise').

i:Vibes: How did the name Ronski Speed come about?
Ronski Speed: Funny story, I always signed my emails like that. It's a mix between the 80's pop group name Bronski Beat, my first name Ronny and the way I do
things - always fast! So when the question of an artist name arrived, we took this. We thought this name stays in mind. But it has definitily nothing to do with drugs or so. Last year Euphonic got an offer from a German major record company who wanted to sign me as a so called future talent. Their
only condition was to change my name. I said fuck off!

i:Vibes: What has been the pinnacle of your career so far?
Ronski Speed:
The success of Sun Decade made me really happy. I didn't expect that this record would become so popular around the globe. Fantastic for me is to get good feedbacks for my productions. It's also great when I'm listening to my tracks in a club and on the radio.

i:Vibes: The past year has seen Ronski Speed take off with some quality remixes and 'I'm Alone' under your Sun Decade alias was huge with DJs such as Armin van Buuren and Paul van Dyk, how would you describe the music you're producing?
Ronski Speed: Oh, it's hard to say, most of all uplifting quality Trance, nice melodies and harmonies.

i:Vibes: On the same topic, you have recently remixed Goldenscan's classic 'Sunrise' which I personally have had the pleasure of hearing in a club, I must say it's fantastic. Did you find it hard remixing such a classic track with expectations being so high?
Ronski Speed: Yes, the expectations are very high. Pulser and Tiesto already made good jobs which are hard to top. Therefore this remix took a long time. I had the chance to use these brilliant Pulser lines in my remix. In the end I'm really happy about the result. The first reactions were great and that's fine.

i:Vibes: You have been heavily involved with remixes recently, can we
expect more coming in the next few months?
Ronski Speed: Yes, currently I've been working on a remix but I can't tell you about because it's very secret yet. I got a lot of remix request in the last time, but won't do too much. At the moment my main focus is on own productions.

i:Vibes: What can we expect from your own productions? A new Sun Decade or
Ronski Speed track perhaps?
Ronski Speed: Yes, next up there's a Ronski Speed single called 'Iris'. Paul van Dyk and Matt Hardwick played it already. The brilliant John Askew is very busy in remixing the track. I think it will be released on Euphonic in July. There is also one track to finish for the first Mirco de Govia album. In June we will start to produce the new Sun Decade single. It's already composed, we only have to record the vocals and do the right mixes.

i:Vibes: Do you prefer to use Software or Hardware for your productions?
Ronski Speed: It's the combination.

i:Vibes: Do you have any advice for up and coming producers?
Ronski Speed: Do exactly what you like! Try to create your own style and find new sounds. A good melody is the first step to winning.

i:Vibes: What is your opinion on digital media (mp3s, etc)?
Ronski Speed: Good to get some stuff on mp3, especially DJ sets. But lately the bought records or CDs are the best you can have. They are the originals. I enjoy to spend my time in a record store and find the records I like.

i:Vibes: Any last words to the readers?
Ronski Speed: Positive thinking is the only way to do great things for the future. Keep your eyes and your ears open for my new Single 'Iris' and the next Euphonic releases.
Peace.

i:Vibes Thanks again, and good luck with the future.
