CD1

First up we start off with a Nice Italian track, CRW - Like a Cat, which is very energetic, and straight away I know this is going to be a high paced Action filled CD. The tempo is very good, and the bassline on this Marco Zaffrano remix is really good, Percussions are very basic, and 3 minutes in a lovely Flanged sound comes in, helping build this as a great opening track, which if this is anything to go by, leaves us in for a fast paced journey. Later on a lovely percussion accompanies the dark sound, and the fast beats, and a slight pinch of vocals added to the mix too, lead us upto the first transition, which mixes smoothly into a track which is a Wippenberg remix, the ordering of this seems weird, for in my past experiences, Wippenberg produce mainly epic vocal remixes, but let's see if I'm mistaken in this case. It does appear to be a bit like their usual style too, and has been mixed in very nicely, just seems a tad odd to hear a tune like this in with some of these tracks on the listings! A tribal like chanting and percussion come in, and it's really nice, a bit different from the usual vocal stuff Wippenberg remixes usually go with, but in my opinion this is a bit better, and We're joined shortly in by a lovely synth, which comes into the breakdown, which is a pretty typical one by trance standards, leading us back into the melody, and ready for the mix into the next track, another track I am unfamiliar with, so let's see how it goes. The standard of transitions seems to be a decent standard, which is obviously something you would expect if you're going to pay for a CD. Next track seems a bit harder again, a pretty simplistic low bassline, and a spacey sounding synth, and a vocal repeating of 'music' leading into a softer main section to the song, and after a slight breakdown we're back into the same low bassline, this time with the main melody over it, and repeats again before the track is out.

Another good transition later, and we're going by the sounds of it into something a bit deeper, which stays like so for the first 3 minutes, and then it breaks into another trancey synth and a nice low string over it, leading us back to the same low deep & dark bits from earlier on in the track. Next up, is a track from the DJs for the 2nd CD, the Organ Donors which sounds a lot darker & techier on the break, something I really like the sounds of lately. There is an awesome breakdown, which is pretty much beyond words here! I suggest you enter the competition that will follow very soon and hear it for yourself!

Next up comes the track I recognise the most, Mauro Picotto's Pulsar, remixed this time by Marco Zaffrano, and the amazing strings are here again, with a really funky synth over the top, and a technoish percussion to boot, leading us into the return of the beats, which along with the trippy melody carry us on for quite a while, into a short transition, followed by a heavy bassline, and a Vocal, which should be here, since it's a Vocal Mix! Stupid Joke Aside, this sounds a slight bit heavier than some of the earlier tracks, mainly due to the afforementioned bassline & when this cuts out, for the melody and the soft vocal over the top, it's once again an uplifting tune, We are joined a minute or so later by the bassline again, which brings some beef back into the tune, and for saying this is a vocal mix, it's not as vocal as i was anticipating earlier on, kinda nice to be honest, fits into the mood that's being created here. Next up is a melody that is known and treasured throughout the hearts of every dance music lover, Seven Days and One Week perhaps one of the best melodies created, and which in this case has been moved onto a harder notch with this remix, which is very nice, and fits in really well on this cd where the original wouldn't!

Next up, we get into a track I've not heard before, which has a percussion at the beginning that's repeated over until it infects you, and you're guaranteed to be thinking of it for the rest of the week at least. A funky synth comes in next, kind of rough and edgy, building us up into a techno/trippy melody I realise suddenly I recognise as being played by Johan Gielen for ages last year, described best as kinda like Joyenergizer in a trippy sounding way which is bound to send you insane!

Coming in next is a track from Darren Styles & Mark Breeze two guys who I know from back in the hardcore scene a long time ago, mid 90s onwards, and who I've had ultimate respect for in a long long time, this time it's 'Let me Fly' a nice sounding track what takes a while to break, but when it does, it's a lovely melody, something which this CD has surprised me with, looking at the tracklist I expected a bit harder maybe, but It's obviously going to appeal to more people this way. Next up, a tune entitled Kokaine, like so many out there nowadays, this one is produced by Vinylgroover, who's come a long way production wise, and changed styles since I knew him as a great Hardcore DJ & Producer. This one is darker & deeper, and as close to hard house as we've come yet, but still including a sound of Hard Dance, before we mix quickly into the next track, a huge compilation involving the Disco Brothers, Styles & Breeze, and a track entitled 'Feelin' Me' which is new to me anyway. It is accompanied by a lovely melody, and is as trancey as we've got, and I'm really enjoying it, kinda euphoric sounding.

Into the last hurdles of this cd, and we come across a remake of a very old track, sunshine on a rainy day, something which has been remade many times, and once again brought upto date here in a banging trancer, which is perhaps not the best mix of it i've ever heard, but sometimes tracks take time to grow on you. The penultimate track is a remix known as the 'Deep & Dark' one, and is definitely a bit like that in the bassline, and has a percussion that reminds me of Marco V - Indicator slightly. It does keep in this manner of being darker, and in my opinion is quite a nice track, especially after all the vocals you can swing a cat at! It does get a bit softer later on, especially when the melody & break is over, soon to be mixed into a heavy sounding breakbeat part, which soon moves up into a hard trance extravaganza, 'We are One' which is a track I've been familiar with for a while now, very german sounding, and quite a good tune, in my opinion to end the journey on.

Overall it's a nice CD, mixing is tight, maybe a bit randomly ordered at times.

17) Vinylgroover & The Red Hed 'Don't Hold Back The Music (Jon Doe Remix)

CD2 begins with a track entitled ‘All My Life’ and if the cd goes anything like this first impression, it’ll be very german sounding in places, though it looks harder later on, so should be interesting. This track itself is a vocal trancer, spun at quite a nice tempo, giving it an energetic sound, something I love in my music. This track is very short as the intro track, and mixes nicely into a Swiss Trancer from the popular DJ Energy, Entitled Arya, a track what has done the rounds in the scene, the strength in this track is the awesome sounding melody, which gives me shivvers, especially at this speed. And I’m soon taken into the next track, one I’ve not heard of before, which has a piano-like sound early on over a heavy beat, and simple percussion, which leads into a lovely breakbeat coming in, over vocals, which are nicely sung, and the beat really helps them here. It builds into a huge melody, very awesome sounding, german/swiss like in a great energy too.

The next track mixes in, and just from the kick & percussion I can tell you it’s remixed by the ever popular Push Belgium’s best export since chocolate and this track follows the usual M.I.K.E. style of progression through lush sounding synths, nice rolling basslines, and beautiful sounds. Maybe not quite as awesome as some of his other tracks like The Legacy & Please Save Me, this still is really good, and brings us soon into the next transition, an oldish track entitled Jetlag, which has been very popular over the last year or so, and this is due to the nice synths used, lovely softish bassline & kick that compliment each other so well, letting the strong sounding synth do all the hard work early on into the breakdown, into a lovely soft melody, incorporating a male vocal speech, which fades out as the beautiful rolling melody comes in, relazing the ears in a beautiful soft manner, and giving a blissful feeling of how trance should be.

Up next is a very familiar make-up, with a Heavy-ish kick, a rolling percussion of hi-hats and deep bassline, it could only be a Cosmic Gate remix, this one for Svenson & Gielen’s ‘Answer the Question’ If the mix progresses nicely like I hope and the tracklist seems to suggest it will, we’ll stay harder on from here, and this track is a nice way of achieving this. Asking us to Answer the question, we’re soon past a nice breakdown, into full on madness that comes with a good hard trancer! Following on from this, we’re into a track from the mixers of this CD, Organ Donors, entitled ‘Blackout’ which starts off with a dictionary-like definition of Blackouts, and a heavy beat & bass, that you’d expect from these guys. Later on we’re taken into a nice melody, which along with the beats & the bass sounds really cool.

Next up, an offering from BK, one of the best in the genre, this track starts out with a spacey sounding vocal, grabbing us and taking us down into the bass & beats, as it echoes on & on for a while. This repeats later on, and is mashing my brain up a bit as I write it, maybe I should turn it down, but it sounds so good like this! The next track following this is by an Italian legend, Ricky Effe, and hopefully will be as good as some of his earlier tracks. It’s almost techno in places, with not a melody in sight, just weird sounds, and giving us a short 2 minute break from that last BK track and the damage on the ears that was inflicted. Not much time seems to pass before we’re mixed into the next tune, going by the title of ‘Shake It’ and a vocal telling us to do so, with a funky like percussion and heavy kick, almost like a tom drum. This carries on, and suddenly we can hear yet another track being mixed in, these guys know how to fill up a cd!
We’re soon informed that the End of the earth is upon us, so get up, forget the past, go out of our minds, go insane, which echoes on & on into the breakdown, and and time to get up, with a very hard sounding track, which must sound awesome live. A Funky sounding hard melody is in, Not melodic, but dirty, sharp sounding, high kind of pitch to it too. Soon I hear a familiar track mixed in, Floorburn, a track which featured on a compilation I reviewed a while back, though this new, deeper trance remix comes from Spoke & Vespa 63, with deep sounds leading us into the main melody, which is simplistic but effective. A nice string comes in, not full on trance soft, but hardish, and the vocal is back, into an amazing synth for the second bit of the melody, really rolling, with an electric feeling to it, and now the kickdrum is back, leading us to what will be the next track I believe.

The track that appears next is a remix from the CDs DJs of a track I know best for it’s remix from Push, Back to Cali from Italian master Mauro Picotto. Should be interesting, let’s go! Deeper than the melodic mix, but not without its moment in the melody especially, and a nice breakbeat helps us to get going, into a really cool sounding track, and for the first time I heard it, I want to go back and listen again, especially to what they’ve done to the melody, but the show must go on, and into a track entitled ‘Fixation’ with a hard & funky sound & feel to it, deepish basslines, a long breakdown in the beginning, and we’re off with a heavy beat, and a bass to match this taking us into another breakdown, with a wicked difference, and a melody that suddenly sounds so familiar, I know I’ve heard it before, and can hum along as it goes, although that’d make me look and sound even more stupid than usual! Taking us on, we got into a ‘Hard Houz Generation’ with a weird sound, and is more hardstyle than hardhouse in my opinion, but I didn’t name the track so take it up with him, maybe its just this remix.

Taking us towards the end, is the most infectious song you’ll ever hear, and it’ll have you saying 99.9 over & over again until you’re taken to the madhouse, and possibly locked up forever, but if you take this cd with you, it’ll be worth it! Harder than the Oliver Klitzing inspired remix I’m used to, this is full on power from the first second to the end, and includes a nice deep part too to catch your breath before it’s taken away again. Finally on this track, Jon Doe remixes a Vinylgroover tune, to end the madness this cd has brought. Softish strings after the breakdown, a nice vocal and a trance melody help us go onto a hardish beat & bassline, with cool sounding hi-hat adding to the feeling until it’s time to fade out and get your bearings again.

Conclusion:
CD2 in my opinion is the best of the two, and I’m going to leave this in the cd player for a lot longer!! Hope if you win the competition coming up soon you can comment on this review, and I’d give cd2 9/10., cd 1 7/10 so overall, 8/10. Well worth a purchase if this is your cup of tea, or maybe discover something new by getting it!
