One of the popular Dance publications will see it's final issue this month :( Find out all here
Publisher IPC is to close its monthly dance mag Muzik Magazine. Muzik Magazine was one of the biggest publications on dance music in the UK and beyond. The closure is due to a decrease in recent advertisement and copy sale revenues and the decline of the music business in general. Fortunately no more than 10 employees need to look out for another job.
Muzik Magazine was founded by Ben Turner in 1995. Right from the start, Muzik had quite a status on serious journalism on the dance scene how it was back then, right up until the current dance movement as we know dance music and its industry today. Not only was Muzik Magazine responsible for the magazine, they were also the founders of the Bedroom Bedlam competition (giving us James Zabiela, Paulo Mojo and the like), the Muzik Magazine Awards, several DJ Tours worldwide, and more besides.
Ben Turner is currently creative director of the DanceStar Awards, and the new and official glossy DanceStar magazine. As well as this, Ben was also editor of ‘Ibiza: Inspired Images from the Island of Dance’ - a book he and his Muzik team wrote covering all aspects of the Ibiza experience.
Tim Brooks of IPC: "Just like the broader Music industry of which we're proud to be a part, we have to channel our resources to where the consumers are".
“We have a very talented and dedicated team on Muzik, and I want to thank them all for their hard work and their grace under pressure. Sadly, nothing they could do in isolation was going to turn around this sector of the Music market.”
The August issue of Muzik will be the final issue, available from July 9th
