CD1

We begin CD1 with June Whitfield & Percy Thrower discussing July, gardening, and are about as far away from Hard Trance as ever! Soon however we have to turn around & look at the people, and we’re informed that we have 2 DJs here, and hear small samples from other tidy two songs, like Riot Brothers – Ripped Out & Heavens Cry – Til Tears do us Part. Soon however the real business begins, and we’re into the energetic sound of the Freak – The Bells, which is the beginning of a great journey, with me having already listened to the cd a couple of times!! After a couple of minutes, we hear the bells chiming, like a Sunday morning when the mad people from the local church attempt to wake you up. After an array of catchy synths and funky beats and effects, we come upto the first remix on the cd from Guyver, a name which seems to be dominating this first cd, the first track being Steve Hill’s ‘My Lovin’ which samples the lyrics from the age old classic from Felix, bringing it upto date in true Tidy Two Style.

This song is in the style that is sending shockwaves over the UK, a blend of Harder Trance with harder edgy sounds that we’ve come to associate with Tidy through their consistently high standard of releases. Next up on the Guyver remix treatment is ‘Burning’ a track from Rob Tissera, a banging vocal hard trancer, which really hits the spot here, you might think Hard Trance with lyrics wouldn’t go, but believe me, when you hear this cd you will realise that it does. This track is also lucky enough to have a banging melody too, which really gives a great feeling as you hear it really loud!

Soon up, we have a new track, which is a take on the timeless classic of Binary Finary from K2 on this occasion. Imagine the original melody with a tidy style funky hard trance pad/synth and you’ve got this. Best played loud too! Next up comes the amazing ‘Play’ from Stimulator, which asks us to come play, and is an array of gorgeous synth work and a nice hard kick & bass, energetic is the best word for it. The next track is Let’s Go, and starts off quite slow until the breakdown and the melody comes in, and grabs you head, snaps it off, puts it on a stick & spins it round so all you can hear are beautiful sounds from all directions!

Up next is the recently released Guyver remix of the God, Tony De Vit’s ‘Give me a Reason’ which the man himself would be proud of. Take Hard Trance, with a very edgy ‘Tony De Vit’ Sounding synth, and a lush vocal and you’ve got this track summed up very quickly. To take it further, it has a very intelligent breakdown and is sure to rock you, especially when the beautiful sounds come in just before 2:30 into the track, simply stunning in my opinion. Next up comes ‘ I’m Your DJ’ which is slightly heavier in the kick & Bass, and has a melody equally as stunning as the tunes before, but it sounds a bit harder due to the beats & bass. All the tracks so far are intelligently played, and the mixing is stunning so far, I could barely tell you that I’ve heard a transition that wasn’t smooth & lush. Following on is a tune known as Restless, and this is a beautifully crafted piece of work, very mellow and has the most mind blowingly sweet pads I’ve heard, which along with the vocal leave me in heaven. Add to this a cracking melody, and you’re onto a winning track.

The Next track is also great, ‘Come On’ incorporates a more weird vocal in the sound of the voice used, and , a very intelligent percussion plus background noises used to get you ready for when the beats come back to you, and you don’t have to wait too long for that to happen. Before you get chance to settle however, we’re hearing the next track, which starts with a few well known voiceover samples as we build up ready for another Melodic Hard Trance Masterpiece, with a softish string, minimalistic vocal, and a longer buildup than some tracks, although not particularly long. Soon we’re onto track 13, unlucky maybe? No way! ‘I Need U’ is a bit deeper and really reminds me a lot of Kai Tracid – Trance & Acid in the melody, hopefully unintentionally!

With just two tracks to go, we’re nearing the end of this energetic journey that is CD1, and we have the first remix from the awesome Lee Haslam and this one, of ‘throw your hands (in the air)’ which samples Arome – Hand’s Up, Is catchy and exactly what you’d expect from this guy, pure quality. Finally we have another Guyver remix, this one being of Candyman from Lab 4, and ends the CD on an awesomely insane note, followed by a bit more of June Whitfield, following the Tidy Tradition of Weird Guest Appearances in places, and also giving us handy gardening tips!!
I Really have to say that I rate this CD as top Notch, and it gets 10/10 from me, if CD2 is half as good it’ll be a must buy for you all!

CD2

CD2 starts with not quite as weird an introduction as the first CD, instead we hear a funky beat with percussions & sounds of seagulls & waves! Soon the Bass hits, and it is quite funky, Disco Dub it definitely is! We get a vocal conversation between a guy & a girl, which is short lived before the bass & beats hit, then it continues, asking her some stuff that includes expletives for those who love their swearing! Some superb mixing takes us to the second installment of this journey, and it again is very tech-like, on the percussions and the likes, but includes a heavyish beat and another catchy bassline to blow our minds. Using a track mainly consisting of groovy percussions and the likes is a risk this early in, but does a great job in building us up and is extremely effective in this way. The next track is a bit more like Hard Trance, involving some funky sounding synths and a hint of vocals in the beginning, and during the breakdown they increase slowly, and the rolling drums come in, followed by an awfully funky synth, and the complex breakdown continues until it’s full speed ahead, leaving us gasping for air, whilst reaching for the skies.

Next up Is a remix of ‘I need (your loving) from one of the latest recruits to Tidy, Lee Pasch, who brings his own grooving trancey sounds to this track. One thing you’ll find in his works is that they flow so smoothly and this is a perfect example of how he layers his tunes to full effect, including an awesome melody, very typical of the Tidy Two sound that is so familiar & catchy. We’re soon mixed into a white label, entitled Hard Opinion by Sharkboy, and this is probably not as hard as you might think from the title, and is actually a banging little hard trancer, with a great buildup, and sounds to die for, long, flowing and infectious. Next up we have Can You Trust Yourself, a Harder option, with deep sounds and a cool range of percussion sounds, with a hint of darkness to it, we’re building up nicely here in this mix. Not making the mix go from trance to Harder stuff suddenly, there is also a nice helping of Trance in the melody, though it is very deep & funky as well, a great combination.

Up Next is a remix entitled ‘San Francisco Acid’ that really makes the ears bleed with eargasms, an awesome acid line in it is the main lead, and is funky dark deep, you name it, it’s covered, the acid sounds are so sharp & crisp and godly in my opinion. As we continue the journey, we get a Jez & Charlie remix of a Nick Rafferty tune, sounds like a great combination! The main part of this tune that will stand out is the amazingly deep lead, almost sounds like a bassline, not a lead, it really is Groovin’

After this, we go a bit trancier again, with a Lee Haslam remix, always going to be interesting listening. We have a sharp cutting melody in this case, and a bassline that’s deep & dark & to die for too and the added bonus of an amazing trance lead later on, typical stuff, but sounds so awesome, especially loud, annoy the neighbours with this and try not to have your stereo seized by noise pollution! Continuing on, the next track, Just Listen does a great job of managing a long build up, and some cool flanger effects in at times on the tune! Taking a good 3 minutes to reach a breakdown of note, this is maybe not the most glamorous track on the compilation, but does a rock solid job of building us, and maybe catching a bit of breath before the end straight is in sight.

Continuing the madness, we have the Base EP Part 2 a myriad of amazingly funky sounds, deep bass sounds, and a cutting melody that can be best described as intelligently energetic. What Can You do 4 Me is the next tune to hit the wheels of steel, and is different from a lot, with a weird way of breaking down, simulating a record cut, and then a stringy sound comes in, and a soft melody and the vocal, building up into a maniacal breakdown, and yet another amazingly energetic riff for the melody. Soon we’re mixed into the next track, which fills us in for the soon approaching finale with another nice tune, standing out from this is the main melody, and a nice use of drums in the breakdown, leaving us ‘Devastated’.

Time now for the ending, and in true Tidy Boys Style it goes balls up here, with an incredible tune from Ian M, Crazy Pills which infects the mind using a grabbing melody and is dark & deep as the rest of the tracks are, but the melody is the main pointer here, being insanely funky, and preparing us for the new Tidy Boys tune, entitled The Hoover and before anyone who’s not familiar with Hard House especially, this is not the Dyson kind! Stupid jokes aside, this is a burst of energy, with rolling basslines, insane synth usage, and ear bashing sounds, sure to wipe out the faith in even the biggest progressive believer! Also we’re reminded that Finchy has to be on time and a rather crude joke, definitely incentive enough to buy it if I haven’t done enough to persuade!

CD2 is amazing, in a different feeling to the first, and once again, I have to give it full marks, for being greatly mixed & selected

Conclusion:
Both CDs are an immense journey, ready to grab you by the unmentionables and make your body pulse with sounds & energy that the Tidy Boys have done to a superb standard here, Highly Recommended!
