After two great releases for the Exciter label, run by Dave & Brendan Webster of Transa fame, They give a debut release to Swedish star Robert Lidstroem, with 3 remixes here. Read on for all!
A1- My Spirit (Transa Vs Inzite Remix)
Starting off with a simple kick & hi-hat, we soon have the addition of a clap added, before the bassline is introduced, rolling slowly and soon being accompanied by a lead, which is followed by a sound that is very simlar to the low one at the beginning of Ralphie B - Massive in sound, and effectively builds us up to sounds like a choir, holding on notes for 16 beats, before the chord change, and continues like this until it all fades out, leaving the bassline on its own until a lovely string comes in, giving a wonderful peaceful mood.
On Top of this, the lead synth joins us, following the string chords, with a crisp sharp sounding melody. Continuing on, I get the feeling that DJs like PVD & Ferry should be dropping this, and I feel a great amibence from the tune, with a feeling of 1999 trance meeting 2003 sofistication.
Overall a great track, and one that will stay in my box for a long time - 9/10
AA1 - Recitation (Misja Helsloot Remix)
Recitation begins with a beautiful soft pad, and gentle sounding breakbeat sequence fading in, as a wonderful introduction, different from the norm. Soft strings layer on top of this, sounding blissful, and I could really imagine it being played on a hot summers day like today is here, just repeating this opening on & on and feeling great.
The rolling pad begins the primary sound again and the kick & bassline come in, with a cool sounding percussion following 16 beats later. The gentle pad isn't far behind, and you really have to turn it up here & appreciate it.
Another simple but highly effective breakbeat comes in, and the string & Melody blend with this soft sound giving us melodic bliss.
I Would definitely play this one early uon in a set, I think it would set the tone for a killer mix, having liked some of Misja's work more than others, I personally think this is his best to date. 10/10
AA2 - My Spirit (Blue Amazon Remix)
A Different type of tune here, which begins with a more progressive sounding percussion and defintely focusses more on this than the preceeding tracks do. The bassline enters now and is slightly more defined than the other remix, and soon we are joined by the kick & percs.
The array of sounds carry on, each time this sequence seems to make one sound stand out more, be it the bass or the percussion or the kick, as the mind wanders through this, journey, on cruise control.
The ending is very DJ Friendly as the bassline isn't too heavy to mix with and there is a good section for a transition.
Definitely a bit different from the others, not focussing on lead melodies to the same extent, but letting the bass & percussion take as much of the pressure, and giving a well balanced track, though doesn't appeal to me personally as much 7/10
Conclusion:
Three very well produced remixes here, will definitely help expose Robert too as a force in the scene if he produces tunes that can be turned into gold like these are. Great work all round from Transa, Robert, Inzite, Blue Amazon & Misja! If you want to hear samples of these tracks for yourself, visit the homepage linked below!
